So our pigs are in our family room, which is at basement level. There are some small bay windows, but not a ton of natural light gets in, even in the daytime. This has never been a problem because I've had a work-from-home job for years and my office is downstairs, so I've always had the lights on down there during the day. But I'm changing jobs and will be in the office 5 days a week now and on the days where my kids are in class, there's now no reason to have lights on down there unless I leave them on deliberately. So do I leave the lights on for them when I'm at work and the kids are at school, because that's what they're used to during the daytime? Help!

Hello
Congrats on your new job - this is just my opinion but I’d tend to keep the lights on as the piggies are used to it - my piggies definitely know their routine and I’m sure yours do too
Someone with more experience will be along to advise you
I enjoyed reading your little animal history 🥰

Congratulations on your new job. 🎉

We can never make up our minds about lights.
Normal working days- no lights, our piggies have to wait until we get home for lights.
If we go out in the evening we tend to leave a light on for them- it helps eliminate the passing flash of headlights from the road too.

When we all stay at my parent's, in the basement room we tend to leave the light on from early afternoon, until we go to bed- but we are usually in and out the room more when we are there.

My piggies live in the garage and despite a nice big window its pretty gloomy during the winter. They are used to the light only going on if we're there. As your piggies are used to their room having the light on, I'd leave it on.

This time of year I have my living room light on from my first trip downstairs until I've put them to bed for the night. I did the same thing when they were in my box room or my bedroom. I need the light more than they do but it's routine, if for nothing else than they know my schedule as much as theirs. In the summer there's plenty of light though, this is only during the darker days/months. I'd keep the light on if you could.

I don't leave the lights on for the piggies when I'm not at home. During summer I block the sunlight completely so that it doesn't get too hot.
They always seem to cope just fine. Probably because eyesight isn't their most important sense.

Mine live out in my shed. The shed has windows but I don’t leave any artificial lights on at any time- they get either natural light or natural dark and that’s it!
