Since the past few days my guinea pig has been licking me. Is this any sign that it might be sick or something? I’m worried. Please let me know!

Licking Me!

Guinea pigs lick to convey the equivalent of a human kiss; they also like to lick salty skin. But it is not something to worry about. Feel blessed instead!
We just call them pig kisses. It's either affection (grooming the humans) or the fact that your skin tastes salty. Some pigs are quite determined hand-lickers (one of our past pigs was so insistent on kissing us all the time that she would actually try to twist around backwards to reach us when we patted her back- in her old age with advanced cataracts, she also occasionally would like our leather couch, apparently mistaking it for an old, leathery human!)

Hovis does this and is very keen on it. Rolo does it too, but not to the same extent, Truffles does it keenly, and Tilly has recently started to do it in her third year. Nothing to worry about

Hiya. 2 out of our 3 girls (Cocoa & Heidi) like to lick. This took me a little while to get used to as our late piggy was prone to giving the occasional nip... so I flinched slightly when I received my first guinea piggy lick off Cocoa. But I’ve learned to be a better piggy mum now & remain still & calm when either of them licks! x

Velvet licks and Christian and Dennis lick only when my son says "do I get a lick then?" They don't do it when I ask them! Meg licks occasionally when the mood takes her and Betsy always follows hers with a little affectionate nip!

My piggie Giggles is a major licker. She is also my drama queen. The first second you pick her up she starts vocalising right away but then she'll start licking me like mad.

Treasure your piggie kisses! Patrick is a kisser too. Sometimes he scrapes his teeth on my skin while licking too, so I think he's just getting salt off my skin. It doesn't hurt at all though. Careful they don't lick somewhere too ticklish 8P
