Licking/grooming other piggies eye.

I'm a bit confused, recently since being inside Esme has been giving Ruby kisses, on closer inspection she is actually licking her eye. I also caught Rosie doing the same to Ruby yesterday, is this likely to be a dominance thing as i have only seen it done to Ruby? I have heard about grooming of ears but not eyes.
I have checked Ruby's eyes for any obvious damage/injury but can't see anything.
Has anyone come across this before? x

My Amina does this a lot. She licks everybodies eyes! I think it is their way of grooming.

It is a sign of affection. However, if the eye licking is becoming very pronounced in one piggy, I would check for signs of an eye poke/infection/irritation. It can often be the first indication that something is not right.

One of my boys does this to the other too. The one being licked really doesnt seem to mind at all. I think its just a grooming thing

often when i've introduced a new piggy into a group i've seen the new piggy do this, especially if they are not a dominant type of piggy. one piggy i have was 3 when i got her and had lived her whole life as a single piggy, she just wanted to be everybodys friend and if she cleaned the other piggies eyes they would let her share their food bowls, which worked much better than if she just tried to push her way in.

One of my pigs, Sherbet, cleans Smarties eyes - Smartie has cataracts and cant see well but seems to like it
