Hi,

I have just noticed what I believe from researching are lice in my youngest guinea pig. They were pale yellow looking things crawling in her fur, I saw one on her head and one low down on her back. She has been with us two months (she is 4 months old), and lives with 3 other pigs. Funnily enough I noticed a bald patch on one of my other pigs backs on Sunday. I imagine they all probably have lice and will need treating.

I have the Beaphar Anti Parasite spot on treatment that you can buy over the counter and intend to put pipettes on all 4 of them asap. I just wondered is this sufficient, i have read a few other posts on here about people getting vet prescribed treatment so i'm wondering if I will need this or will the Beaphar work? Also does it need to be applied each month?

Finally, my pigs live on fleece in a C&C cage so will everything i.e. all fabrics needs washing at a certain temp to kill the lice?

Thanks in advance!

Please dont use the Beaphar treatment. Low dosed pet shop products aren't medications and as such aren't strong enough to deal with the problem. Please see a vet to get the correct diagnosis and correct prescribed treatment.

Dont apply a preventative treatment each month - there is no need in any event but crucially all this will do is cause resistance to form.
