Does anyone have one of these? :-

http://www.justcages.co.uk/products/liberta-retreat-r6a-large-indoor-rabbit-guinea-pig-cage

I really like this cage BUT... not sure about the bar spacing. Also I would have preferred to give the piggies constant access to a large pen so they can freely move from cage to pen. Has anyone modded theirs for that? How have you done it?

If anyone has any ideas on how I could give the piggies access safely please feel free to suggest. Otherwise I may have to just have a seperate pen and cage.

I looked at the Ferplast 140 but some reviews say it is quite flimsy...which I have found is true of other ferplast cages such as the Jenny. I had thought to have the cage on the floor and leave the door open...

Ahh...ideas, ideas...

I have the Ferplast 140. Its weakness is around the corners, as one or two of my clips have broken, making it a bit precarious to dismantle and put back together on cleaning days. Otherwise it's not a bad cage though.

If you have a cage open inside a pen, you'd have to have a very shallow tray (which isn't common) or a ramp in order for them to climb down.

we have one of these http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/rodents/cages/rabbit_cage/120_cm_cages/95923 which is v similar. i'm not sure about the wire platform in the one you suggested - would need to be covered for little footsies.
with ours, any ramp to the ground would be way too steep. even the internal ramps are too steep, and Junior refuses to use them. so we took them out.
the frame is very sturdy, and the pull out base is a big plus for cleaning, but it is too low to put another cage underneath. a lot of wasted headroom if you are not using the upper levels. on the otherhand. we bought it as an emergency/catproof/permenant cage for 60ish quid, and it does the job.
hope this helps

Hmmm, yes I think you are right about steep ramps :(

I do like the Trixie one too and didn't realise it wasn't an integrated stand. I would need something for a ramp and the Trixie bridge thingy looks ideal for that.

I like the extra headroom and intend to put a correx hidey place at one end, giving an extra level indoors.

It really makes no difference to my back to bend to the floor to clean something, its only if I'm picking something up off the floor..so I don't need the stand.

I take it the Trixie is quite sturdy, it certainly looks it from the picture although you can never tell for sure.

I have a Trixie 150 and it's brilliant - roomy and strong. Very sturdy!

I used this ramp....

I found one of these:- http://www.pennypet.de/Kleintiere-S...BBIT-140.html?listtype=search&searchparam=140

Used and rated highly by Greenfields rescue. And works out about £70 odd quid.

I do like the Trixie 150, although its only available from the one place but I am conscious of spending too much if I can help it. This cage and a bigger pen would work out good I think. Its just a shame they won't ship their 150 abroad.

Not set in stone of course, and I am one who likes to change her mind lol It might be that the 140 won't be big enough for..if we got three for example, we'll have to see whats in rescue for us.

I have 2 of the Trixie 150s and 1 of the Trixie 120s and they are brilliant cages. Looking at the image of the first link, that (to me) looks the same as the 150 but built into the stand.

I found the Trixie 150s on a few sites;

I got my 120 one from Seapets - although they were pricey (I foolishly didn't shop around) and delivery was slow. My two 150s were from Jollyes in Milton Keynes, they don't have an online shop but do have stores around the UK http://www.jollyes.co.uk/store_locator.htm - They were pennies under £100 each from here.

I can't recommend these cages enough. The upper level will need covering and the ramp adapting, but both me, Lisajazz and Mackers have done this (slightly differently) in each of our cages, Mackers didn't use the floor that came with the cage but made a wooden one. There are pics on http://theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=45814&page=2 of all of our cages if you are looking for inspiration :)

Gosh, thanks for that...especially that ebay link! How much extra floorspace as a minimum would 3-4 pigs need access to do you think? If I added in an extra level to the cage?

Just to add that the cheap ebay one apparently does not come with an internal shelf.

Not that I couldn't add one but I like the balcony :)

I have 3 in each of mine with the upper level which is 1/3 of the floor space, it wouldn't be big enough for 4 in my opinion. Redfrock has two of the Ferplast 140s and has joined the two together with a drain pipe piece (cut a hole in the base for the pipes to go through) and has 4 in there, but if this was the sort of thing you plan on doing, you have to consider the total length and the space you have available.

The eBay one, are you going by the photo or have you contacted the seller regarding the upper level? The pics that I have seen (except for the deemiller website) don't show any accessories, but both of my 150s came with balcony level, hayrack, toilet/litter tray, water bottle. The 120 came with the same aswell, except it had 2x plastic solid bases and ramps instead of the balcony version in the 150.

I contacted the seller who said, no it doesn't come with a shelf inside.

I don't have room for two 140 cages and a 5foot pen in my front room I'm afraid. I'm not willing to have cages and no pen either. So It will be a max of three piggies for us.

Bearing in mind my front room is also home to two freddies, an explorer (soon) and a large correx pen for the mice to play in :))

You say that now... I remember saying that not that long ago, but somehow I now have 4 and having to redo the cage... :x

Yes it's all down to size, I ended up buying a 6ft dining table from eBay and have one on top of the other because, although they fitted in my lounge next to each other, they dominated the room.

You can easily make an upper level, Mackers used a plank of wood or ply board or something slipped through the bars and then a correx tray on top.

Good luck and don't forget to let us see some picks of whatever you decide :)

Oh to be sure, And I've seen Mackers cage too. I'm used to DIY levels in the mouse cage so I think I might just try that :)
