Thank you for letting me join the forum!

Apologies if this has been asked before but what are people’s thoughts on feeding lettuce to guinea pigs? All the information I’ve read is very conflicting.

I know iceberg is a no no but how about round, little gem/romaine and the red leafy varieties? Our piggies do like lettuce and aren’t big drinkers so trying to ensure they have variety in their diets while keeping them hydrated.

Happy New Year🎉

Mine get a romaine leaf for breakfast every day.
They love little gem lettuce and any red lettuce.

Have a browse through the feeding information thread for more guidance.
If I wasn’t in the Stone Age re technology I’d link it for you.

Welcome to the forum.

Hi and welcome

Here is our comprehensive diet guide, which you may find interesting. It looks at diet as a whole but also at every food group in detail.

Lettuce is part of most members' daily diet. The issue is that lettuce is not necessarily lettuce. Sweet gem, romaine/cos lettuce, lambs lettuce etc. are all fine to feed daily. Iceberg, and rocket/arugula varieties and relatives less so. They can be fed; they just should not so on a daily basis.

Welcome to the forum, the advice on here is always very consistent. My boys would mutiny if they didn't get lettuce every day. It's usually romaine or sweet gem but occasionally butterhead or a red leafed variety as a treat.
My girls would mutiny if they DID get lettuce every day. Not lettuce fans... Not bell pepper fans... Not coriander fans.... My tears sustain them. 😭

My two love little gem, sweet gem, romaine, butterhead and the red leaf type …..not all at once of course 😂

My lot quite happily munch on any lettuce (except iceburg which I never buy) I chuck in their general direction.
