Let’s Learn Languages

We are an international forum and the default language is English but what about us all learning something.
So - Person 1 posts a word in whichever language they choose.
Person 2 guesses the meaning and the language then posts their own new word.

Example:
1. Meerschweinchen
2. Guinea pig in German
Teatro

Aw I studied languages many many years ago at university. I still have the French and Russian literature books I studied - I do use Google translate too but I have a nostalgic affection for the old way of learning!

Muiggen is a German expression for wheeking. Not 'my' part of Germany but I have always liked the word.

They do indeed. It took me quite a while to figure out why 'muig' seemed such a popular word on German guinea forums etc, till I sounded it out (moo-eek, mu-week). Oh, now I get it

I don't have a second spoken language but I use a lot of makaton (a simplified version of british sign language) at work. The sign for Guinea pig is the sign for "G" then the sign for "pig"
