Lethal Whites

Hi everyone,
I have literally just learned what a lethal White is and was wondering if anyone here has one or has any experience in them? I was wondering how you care for them and if the care is different from normal Guinea pigs because of the health problems? Thank you

Hi! Are you sure you have got a lethal and not just pink-eyed white? Lethals are blind, deaf and have chronic dental issues; in worse affected cases, they can also have internal issues. With the right care (especially from a dental savvy vet), a less severely affected lethal can live a normal lifespan and a happy, fulfilled life. Lethals compensate with their other senses, touch and smell. Both parents of lethal guinea pig need be carriers of the roan/dalmation gene.

I don't think I had a lethal I was just wondering about their care and if it is much different to a normal Guinea pig. I had literally just learned that lethal Guinea pigs were a thing

There's a few around on the forum but generally they are happy little piggies who get on with life despite their differences, no-one told them they are different! @furryfriends (TEAS) has some brilliant videos of her little guys enjoying life. She probably has the most experience of lethals that I know of in the UK.

Hello ,my name is debra and I wrote the thread"lethal guinea pigs" . I had a beautiful lethal called Patrick for 4 years ,and while a special needs pig can be quite hard work , and a lot of worry they are worth the effort . Please feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Hello Debra,

I have a possible lethal Guinea pig only 4 months old. She is smaller than the other two and doesn't weigh as much.
She also has very small pink slit eyes, she may be a bit blind.
Although not completely white, but part brown I'd say an equal amount.

Any advice?

Hi! Lethal piggies are always completely white; they are true albinos.

That doesn't say that your girl could not be blind and have issues with food absorption or just miss out with eating when with her companions.I would strongly recommend to have her checked by a piggy savvy vet to see whether she has got any issues with vision etc., but she is definitely NOT a lethal guinea pig.

Thank you for clearing that up. We occasionally get self-styled "experts" trying to set up shop via the forum, so we have to make sure that the quality of advice is and stays as high as we can make it.
