Leah and Demon - Get Well Soon!

After my so sad few days, losing Murphy, Millie and then Jippi last night I now have two more poorly piggies. Leah and Demon have been to the vets this morning as they both have slight diarrhea and pain in the tummy. They were both sitting hunched up in the corner of the cage when I went in this morning. They have been prescribed Septrin and I have been told to feed just hay for the next 24 hours. They have also been given sachets of Science Recovery and a huge pot of probiotics. The vet suggested maybe sending away some droppings for analysis and says if the very worst happens and we lose another one then maybe we should consider getting a postmortem done! I really hope it doesn't come to that. I have moved them into a separate cage and put them in a different room to the rest of my piggies.

Demon is already looking much brighter and Leah looks a little better too. :)

I feel totally drained and Ellie is looking dreadful. She seems really poorly at the moment but has still gone into work.

Please, please, please let things get better soon!

The vet thinks it could be. The scary thing is that the three who have died weren't in the same cage, just the same room. Demon and Leah were in the same cage as Millie though! I have now got Leah and Demon in a separate cage, in another room. Any downstairs piggies are not allowed upstairs and vice versa. My house rabbit is being kept downstairs too, which isn't pleasing him as he usually has the run of the whole house! I am using antibacterial handwash after every time I touch any of them and even changing my clothes after holding one of them.

I definitely think both of them are looking brighter now, so please send lots of healing thoughts this way!
 
This sounds very dodgy. I know of lots of people who are losing multiples of guinea pigs who have never lost more than 1 a year. I am wondering if you all use the same food? Might have a contiminated batch? just my thoughts. Even if it isn't the same brand of food it would be likely that some of the ingridients come from the same place.....sincerely I do hope that this is not the case.

That aside I am really sorry for your piggies & I hope they get better soon :-*

All sorts of things have gone through my mind. This has been hitting piggies that have never had a days illness in their life prior to this.

its really weird that people are losing more than one at a time :(

Leah and Demon are looking a lot brighter. :) Just been and checked all the rest and so far they are looking ok. Have just spoken to the vet as he asked me to let him know how they were doing and he has given me his mobile no in case of emergency as he is out of the surgery tomorrow and Wednesday. We have really found a good vet with him. Went to him for the first time for Badger's last op as a friend had recommended him. He specialises in cats, rabbits and small animals. Doesn't do dogs and bigger animals at all. So much better than the vet we were using in Rugby.

Ellie is looking really poorly though! :(
 
poor Ellie maybe she needs the same vet lol glad your have a good un it means the world to have that trust in your vet with your animals life, let me know that they continue to improve, :-* :-* one for Demon and one for Leah

have you given them any grass from elsewhere?

Just thinking what it could be. It can't just be co-incidence, can it? How are the little loves? And you and Ellie?

oh thank goodness they are improving. I feel so sick with worry when one of them is ill never mind more than one. Really would like to know what it is though. We can never learn enough.
 
Well one week on and the girls are looking good! :D

All the others seem well and happy too! :D

I am hoping to put Leah and Demon back in with their cage mates soon. Think I will leave it a few more days though, just to be sure all is ok. Its been a worrying week!
