before moving my newly introduced guineas back into the hutch, i've decided to give it a bit of a makeover - painting, pvc on walls and laying vinyl tiles on the floor

i was going to lay these today, i know other people on the forum have used these, they're the b&q self-adhesive vinyl tiles, and it says on the back of the box that a suitable primer is needed if they're being applied to plywood, hardboard and chipboard. firstly, i have no idea what the floor in my hutch is (it's thistle hall from PAH), and secondly, has anyone else done this when they've laid them? :{ x

I've never done it but i know to lay them on a floor you have to sugar soap as it will stick to the minute layer of stuff on the floor like grease and come up over time i guess on a hutch there would be dirt and sawsust so i would prime it, maybe you could use water down pva glue? I used PVA to stick pvc sheet's to my hamster habitat

I wished i'd used tile's tho they didnt have any naturelle pattern'd like the pvc table cloth i got from dunelm mill

ah thankyou! by the way did you stuggle to stick the pvc onto the wall when you did it? i've got some from dunelm mill too, the grass pattern, and i'm planning to use it all around the walls but dreading actually doing it! x

It worked quite well but i did use a whole £6 pot of pva glue (but my habitat is 2 level's and floor's back and side's 123cm x38cm x 38cm)and i used aquarium sealant (animal friendly) around all the edge's so urine don't get into the wood and rot it from the inside which need's 48 hours to dry and i would leave the pvc to dry for 24 hour's too

I'm going the whole hog and quarry tiling the interior of mine. I've got a couple of boxes left over from tiling the kitchen. I'll make sure there is plenty of insulation -shavings/hay once it's complete. I'll be able to hose the hutch out then to make sure it's spotless everytime I change the bedding.

I never laid them. Is the floor of your hutch any other wood besides solid wood board i would prime it. Priming seals and provides a clean and smooth surface to work on.

My girlfriend never used anything to stick lino down in some of her hutches, but you could always use a few upholstery tacks for extra support?

I used some to attach covers to a couple of my hutches and even though they've been rained on and gone a little rusty, they're still holding on tight.

Just an idea :)
