This past week I've noticed Penny laying down more when she eats hay and she's been laying down more outside of her hideout. What does this mean, exactly? I thought it meant she was hot but the temperature in my house is comfortable; I haven't seen Cocoa laying down while eating either. Penny has also been very active, eats, and drinks like normal. Any advice helps, thanks!

Hello. A couple of times Pepper has lead down at grass time to eat. I put it down to the heat as it was a bit warm. Also he has been outside of his hides more. If you are worried I would get a vet to check them over just in case. They do hide illnesses very well. But it could just be the heat.

It may just mean she’s becoming more comfortable and feeling more settled. My boys often sleepy outside their hides or in the hay. If you’re really worried then you can always have her checked over.

It usually means they are becoming more comfortable and less on “high alert” when out of their houses. My big boar Boris can usually be found lying in the hay while eating it, or lying by the pellet bowl or veggies as he cheerfully chomps away. He’s just a very chilled and relaxed character and clearly comfortable living with his wives.

My boys do this too! They go through period of mostly staying in their little houses, and periods of making themselves comfy in the middle of the cage - it just seems to depend on their moods :)
