I've lined my hutch with vinyl flooring to make it easy to clean, and I have newspaper topped with Megazorb, topped with hay in the bedroom and just Megazorb in the living area.
However, it's a big ol' hutch and when my pigs are scooting around the Megazorb gets scattered everywhere.

So...

Would it be a waste of hay to layer the entire hutch with the newspaper/Megazorb/hay? Will the pigs nibble the hay they've been trampling or will it just be used as carpet/toilet?

It might be to be honest. Piggies aren't necessarily tidy little beasts so I tend to use my preferred bedding and then use plastic trays and put the hay in those. They like to lay in them and eat at the same time, that way you haven't got hay everywhere that they have 'messed in' and it's easy to replace without having to do the whole hutch.

I use a small cat plastic tray...easy peasy then.

Ah, yes, that makes sense. I know exactly which small cat trays you mean too; only because I've had to buy massive litter trays for my big doofus cats :D

What is your preferred bedding in your hutch?
