Hello. I have moved last year and for the first time, I have a lawn to put my piggies on. However, I am not sure if it’s ever had any chemicals on it (I’ve been here for 9 months and not put anything down). Also the grass is full of moss, clover and other weeds. I’d love to put my piggies out (in an appropriate run) but am also terrified in case they eat something they shouldn’t. I couldn’t bear to inadvertently harm or kill them. Can anyone advise me, please? Thank you 😀

Chemical wise it’ll be fine - if you’ve been there 9 months and haven’t put anything down, then even if be previous owner did, it should have been long enough now to not be a problem.

It’s going to depend what weeds you have in the lawn - are you able to identify them?

That’s a good start, thanks. Yes, it’s mainly moss and lots of clover. Dandelions obviously but I know they’re ok and something small and yellow I’ve not seen before, they’re only budding so finding it hard to identify.

We actually had a moss question yesterday, and the answer was that moss does not taste nice so they are u likely to eat it. Clover is ok but only in small amounts. Dandelion is fine but you don’t want them to eat loads of them.

Yellow flowers - perhaps you could take a photo and post it here - we may be able to help identify it from the leaves. Buttercup and celandine (lesser celandine is related to buttercup) is poisonous

Always if in doubt, avoid though!

Can you take a photo ? We might be able to identify the weed. I would not worry too much. As a general rule you need to cut the grass 5 times after a lawn weed kill application. But if you have lots of weeds in your lawn and been there 9 months it won’t be a problem at all.

Thanks for the advice so far, much appreciated :-) Here are a couple of photos. Thanks in advance!

This weeds look like Lesser Trefoil, it’s related to clover so I would not worry about it. If you don’t want it in your lawn then in autumn when the piggies are not out on the grass buy some special autumn weed and feed, that should get rid of it for the following year
