Ok, i've now made some fleece liners - waterproof layer, then 2 layers of towel and then fleece. I have 2 questions....what do you do re foraging. I figured I'd have a hay corner to satisfy his natural foraging instincts (as well as having hay rack). had it on a litter tray and he tipped it over, pulled the hay out and its everywhere...so messy. So, those of you who have guineas on fleece, do you have a hay area so they can forage, or do they only get hay in their racks to keep the mess down.

And 2 - there a small white patches on the fleece - i presume this is where his wee has dried and i can see it now its on fleece rather than hay and shavings? Normal? It doesn't hurt him to wee or anything.

Thank you for humouring me!

Regarding the hay ... No idea, one of the reasons why I don't use fleece!

The white stains is just dried wee though, nothing to worry about ... all mine (and rabbits) do it :)

Hi,

I use a hayrack and I clip the hay rack onto a corner litter tray and they don't tip this over as it's too heavy when filled with carefresh or other material.

I find this keeps the mess down:)

Mine have a hay loft which usually just has newspaper and a bit of megazorb then full of hay. This is to try and keep the fleece on the ground floor clean but they always end up dragging down the ramp :))

I think the pic above is a good idea, mine just tipped it eveywhere or dragged everything out though so I gave up and they just have a hay rack. This can still be messy, i find they no longer always eat what gets dropped outside of the hay rack! I'm building a c & c soon though which will have a hay loft instead....

Its a corner tray i have - bars of the cage are the wrong spacing, so if its clipped on its a cm off the ground! And Max can tip it. Grrr! Might try and make a hay loft if i can get some grids....

I use a litter tray (rectangular) and most of the hay stays in it although some may catch on their feet when they jump out and go out with them. I did try a corner tray but mine kept knocking it over. Theyve not done that with the rectangular one though,

we built a hay loft on our c&c, to try to encurage them to go up there to eat their hay, but it has nt worked as pepper wont go up the ramp! and we tried putting him up there, and he wouldnt come down either!

Mine have a hayloft too. Lined with megazorb and then stuffed daily with fresh hay which they enjoy burying themselves in. They also have haycakes on the fleeced groundfloor area.

I'm liking this idea!

Newspaper For Me

I just put some newspaper down & put the hay on top - then just roll it up & replace morning & evening - it tens to stay mostly where it is - but then I find my lady pigs are tidier than my baby boar (and not as smelly:)) )

I put the hay in a corner on the floor. They like to eat it that way as it is more natural for them. I do not care about the mess.
