Miss p is booked for laser therapy on her arthritis knees this afternoon, our vets are doing a trail of it at the moment, super excited to try it, hope it helps! 😁
She already has metacam and oxbow joint support, she does pretty well as it is but certainly can't hurt!

Didn't seem to bother her at all had to wear some funky glasses while it was being done, might be a coincidence but she's been zooming around the cage when we got home 😍 now for callies first puppy class in a couple of hours πŸ˜‚ busy day with the furbies today! Not sure how long they'll have the machine as to whether she'll get any more sessions... Apparently they've had some really good success with it on wounds but the nurse hadn't done it for arthritis before, guess we will find out! 😍 i asked about it this morning as id heard a couple of people talk about it for arthritis in piggies and I knew they were doing a trial of it 😊 managed to score a quick appointment while they still have the machine Xx

i took my dog to the vets today for her 20 something ish session of laser therapy, she's been having it for her arthritis (3 joints in her front leg) over a year now. She's far more mobile & has lost 4.5kg since the start of the laser sessions - i think this is due to her being more active so losing weight, she is a stable 34.5 kg now & has been for about 12 months

She had an initial loading dose of 6 sessions in 2wks, then kept on a maintenance dose, starting off with once a week & gradually weaning her down to a session every 6-7 wks as now.
there are very few vets that have access to the laser equipment, my vet was donated theirs for treating a very generous cat owners cat!

@Adelle was the member that i first found out about using the laser on guinea pigs & prompted me to enquire at my vets if it was an option for my dog. I'll always be very grateful of her information on it
I hope your lovely Miss P gets as much benefit from her laser sessions as my dog has :D

urm yes - the funky glasses are a bit weird to wear! lol!:cool: xx

Haha yes the glasses make me feel a bit blind πŸ™ˆ round 4 today and they did her spine too since her arthritis seems to have progressed there, she also started tramadol recently but is doing much better now, hasn't been a huge fan of the past couple of sessions but her mobility does seem to improve afterwards! 🀞🀞 My vets have had the laser equipment to trial it, I think they may be keeping it as they've started advertising it on their whiteboard 😁 xx

Sorry to jump in your post but my piggy Softy has been diagnosed today with arthritis in his back legs (especially his knees) and got his first round of laser therapy.
he's also on Loxicom twice a day.

I really hope this treatment will help my little guy as the vet said probably because of the arthritis he is not able to pass his urine completely (i guess because of his legs being in pain due to the position) and this is causing sludge that can lead to other issues. 😞

so fingers crossed it will work!

How your piggy is doing now?

Fingers crossed for your piggy! It really seemed to help princess but sadly she also had an inoperable tumour and she passed April 2020! I'm sure the loxicam and laser therapy will help lots :) princess also had metacam and tramadol/buprecare πŸ’—

I'm so sorry for the loss of your lovely Princess 😒
it's always hard when they pass away (I lost Softy's brother when he was only 2 years old).

I guess the best we can do is to try to give them the best chance at life and keep them comfortable in their old years.

hugs to you! xx

So sorry for your loss too, it is always very hard, we lost princess' friend fluffy too in Feb to a respitory infection 😳 my cat is going for x rays on Tuesday to find out if she has arthritis or not as she's been a bit stiff but I don't think my vets do the laser thing any more :( your right though it's all we can do to love them and keep them as comfy as poss in their senior years! Best of luck to you both πŸ’— I hope the meds and lasering help πŸ’— xx

Thank you so much, I wish the best of luck to your cat as well! hopefully it's not arthritis and he'll get better soon! ❀
ps. I don't know where you live but if by any chance you are near Glasgow (Scotland) my vet has the laser machine permanently available if you wanna give it a try for your kitty! 😘😘

Bless you! We live in South Yorkshire England unfortunately :( babybelle also gets highly stressed with vet visits so lasering might not be for her, I hope she doesn't too she just has a couple of the signs, we tried her on pain relief but she had a weird reaction to it so trying to find out for sure if she has anything going on, she does have signs of being in pain but has other health conditions too (she's almost 16 bless her πŸ’—) just trying to come up with a plan that'll work for her 😳 xx

I'm sure your vet will give you the best advice and come up with a good plan to help her! stay positive! ❀️
In the meantime give her lots of cuddles and treats! πŸ˜‰
Hope everything will turn out fine! x
