We adopted Larry and Moe 2 years ago and they are both about 3 years old. Starting in November '20, Larry slowly lost weight, though his behaviors never changed. I took him to the vet two months ago, and initially the vet prescribe him antibiotics after suspecting an infection. After Larry continued to decline and became lethargic, I took him in again. The vet realized he had a lump in the dewlap. Surgery removed a tumor the size of a shooter marble! The vet described it as well encased and he got all of it, so he gave Larry good odds for recovery. So far, Larry has convalesced well and is eating and moving around much better than at his low point. I am wondering if anyone has their own experience of a guinea pig in recovery from such a thing and can offer advice:
What are signs I should watch for in regard to relapse or infection?
Larry sounds different since surgery; what would normally be a chut is now huskier, more like a farm pig snuffling. I attribute it to the surgery being near his throat, but are there any specific or new sounds of which I should be wary?
