I have just been cuddling Edward and have found a large lump about the size of a marble on his left shoulder :( He's got a lump in his armpit that has been biopsied by my vet and the result was a fatty lump. He also has them on his sides and belly. What are the chances of this lump also being a fatty lump or something more sinister given it's location? All 4 piggies are booked in to the vets on 13th September for nail trims and check ups, can it wait until then or should he be seen sooner? Edward is 6 in November

Hi!

Unless the lump is in the location of a lymph node, it cannot be be what you are likely worried about most. Without a picture that shows clearly where on the body it is located, I am unable to comment.

If you have any concerns try to get an earlier appointment. Lumps can suddenly come up to that size; it all depends on whether it stops or continues to grow fast in the coming days. Some older piggies have a genetic disposition for lumps; some boars can end up with up to 30 fatty lumps. Unsightly, but basically harmless.

Thank you. The lump is located on the left between the top of his left leg (not his armpit) and ear. Kind of on the top of his neck but to the left. It doesn’t bother him when I gently squeeze it between my fingers to see if it’s attached to anything

I shall keep an eye on the lump over the coming days and have him seen sooner should it change or grow

I would have that vet checked sooner in case it is a lymph node, as should any lump in the neck area. Just to make sure.

Poor Edward. Hope he’s ok. Hope you can get him in at the vets tomorrow. Actually had a dream that I was holding Edward and Elizabeth about a week ago! Weird.

Thank you everyone. He’s booked in for Wednesday morning as that’s the earliest they could fit him in as it isn’t classed as an emergency :( It’s not with my favourite vet either as she’s fully booked next week :( I have however managed to book all 4 in at the same appointment for nail trims and check ups so at least I don’t have to go on the 13th now

Edward has seen the vet. She said we had 3 options 1) leave it and see 2) send a sample off to the lab or 3) remove it. I opted for option 2) but when she put the needle in to the lump, she believed fat cells came out. Because of that, she said she’s 90% sure it’s a fatty lump so in her opinion, she said not to send it off but to monitor it. I am so relieved

I am so pleased Claire, and given he has already had fatty lumps in the past this makes perfect sense.
They do like to worry us these piggies.

So glad Edward’s lump is nothing to worry about Claire :hug:Sorry brains been playing up so I’d totally missed this, so glad it’s good news ❤️ xx

Glad that you have had it checked and have got the good news. This means that you can now put your fears to rest for good. :)

Fab news! I know they worry you. When Digby first had a lump removed i was so worried, thankfully it tested as just a fatty lump and he ended up with several of them over time that never bothered him.
