Hi all,
My guinea pig has developed a large cyst over the past few months. It doesn’t seem to affect her mood whatsoever, she’s constantly running around her cage and begging for veggies. She’s six years old, and when we first took her to the vet they said they weren’t worried, that they thought it was just a fatty deposit. However it’s grown a lot, and i feel like she may be too old to handle the trip to the vet. The cyst has also started to smell very bad. I really want to avoid putting her down if i can because she still seems happy as ever. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks

Hi!

If the cyst is smelling, you really need to see a vet. It means that it has ruptured and could go infected.

Would it help you if I told you that I was in the same situation three years ago when a cyst under observation put on a real growth spurt and promptly burst while my piggy savvy vet was on holiday; she need the cyst removed just one month before her 7th birthday as soon as I could get an appointment after their return.
Hafren did come through her operation well, recovered fully and without problems and lived for several months more before old age caught up with her. :)

This is her the day after her operation. As you can see, it was a very large cyst.
