I have had my guinea pigs for ahwile and tried laptime maybe three times
I see a lot of owners here talking about having their guinea pig on there lap whole wathing a movie and I'm wondering
how the guinea pigs stay still!
My pigs are six months old, and once with ms. Nugs she tried to jump of the couch. Multiple times!
Maybe mine dont like it, but I really want them to! SHould i just do it and get them used to it?

All my pigs when they were young, were rigjt little bags of energy, couldnt still still, when they get older they do calm down alot, and become better at lap time, my boar when he was little, always tried to jump onto the arm of our sofa, still dont know what was so good about it 🤣

Hi!

Youngsters are not very good at sitting still for very long.

Please also be aware that the majority of piggies, if they are allowed to choose, would prefer to go home to the cage after a cuddle and not necessarily sit and wathc a film with you (they'd rather sleep through it but can do that frankly just as well in their cage...) They are not naturally born sofa potatoes.

Personally I allow my piggies the freedom to say when they have had enough. Some would rather not be picked up at all if they had any say but grooming must be!
For me they are piggies first and human pets only second. A few piggies enjoy a little longer cuddle (and I enjoy regular cuddles with them) but I have only got one tv piggy, and she is a dumped ex-single piggy who has finally got a friend and would rather be with her now...
Which is fine with me because I know that she is finally able to fully be a piggy and not just a human pet! I enjoy her happiness and the knowledge that can live the way she should live it more when the chips are down.

Rocco and Blitzen did not like laptime. Jake didn't mind it, but he would fidget a lot. Jack would quite happily fall asleep on you, especially if he could hide on your shoulder under your hair. Comet was similar to Jack, except if there was food (including hay) about. He leapt off the sofa twice to try and get at the hay bag and he tried climbing on the arm of the sofa once to get at the punnet of blueberries that he had discovered was there. I've held friends guineas on my lap for some time - one in particular would sit there as long as you wanted him to, but you needed to be prepared for the fact he would constantly poop whilst you held him. They were all well socialised otherwise, but whilst Comet, Jack and Jake could have all the laptime they wanted, Rocco and Blitzen would last 5 minutes and then they were back. They preferred it that way, who was I to argue?
