Someone from another board has had such a terrible tragedy with her little male guineapig. He was neutered and she checked him regularly however he managed to pull out his stitches and then did himself more damage and had to sadly be put to sleep. She is heartbroken poor girl.

Was wondering is there a type of collar that males can have put on them after neutering or indeed an op where a piggy can get at stitches.
I had a male before who I neutered and he managed to take his stitches out luckily he took them out the night before because the next morning when he was at the vets (didn't bother to check him that morning as we were heading straight there anyway) turns out his had done it himself.

Any ideas?

Rabbits are easier have always put collars on rabbits as my previous bun took some of her stitches out and I had to take her back to be re stitched it wasn't too bad but from then on always used the collar on rabbits.

I have heard of instances of them being used on piggies but rarely - they tend to fight to get them off. With regards to wounds after neuters, in my experience vets have used either stitches buried under the skin or surgical glue to seal the wounds.

Oh thats so sad. :( I've heard of pigs being bandaged around the middle to stop itching at wounds. I think a lampshade my upset them, its bad enough on a dog. My Monty hated it when he broken his leg. :(

Was thinking that, sometimes no matter how careful you are these things happen. Feel so sorry for her she's so upset.

The piggies that I have had neutered I asked for the glue to be used instead of stiches.

This website shows you how to make one - its in German, but I think the pictures are easy enough to understand :)

the only thing with collars is they prevent the pigs eating their special poops, which is something to be considered.
