I had two guinea pigs Marmite and Mustard. Together since they were very little. Think they were sisters. Mustard died. We have replaced her with Twiglet - 6 months old. Marmite is the older sow - 5 years old. She is used to being with another guinea pig, but not Twiglet. She may still be wondering where Mustard is. Marmite was the dominant GP of the two.

So - we are trying to put Twiglet and Marmite together but Marmite is being very defensive/viscious/threatening. They were chattering there teeth and fronting up to each other. A lot of scrimaging about. Any tips?

welcome to the forums from me and the girls in oz. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: firstly sorry to hear of the lost of mustard. RIP mustard run free and popcorn in paradise and watch over your mum and marmite. 0:) 0:) 0:) :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
when choloe passed away who was also the dominant female, we got jessie. zoe was 2 and jessie 6-8 weeks. so we got a cooling rack and halved up the cage so they could smell and see each other but not fight. we also had them out together in one of plastic shells kids fill with water or sand. jessie wanted to be friendly but zoe would chase her, nip her etc. as jessie grew we intoduced them together and took divider out. now jessie is the dominant female and picks on zoe especially when jessie is on heat. so which ever way you introduce twiglet and marmite do it slowly and in neitral terrority, if you have something of mustards like a towel or blanket or bed perhaps rub it on twiglet so that she will smell like mustard and perhaps marmite will be less threatening towards twiglet. good luck. hugs and cuddles to you and your girls. and RIP sweet mustard! 0:) 0:) 0:) :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I do the same as Graham, neutral territry and offer veggies to take their mind off the dominance thing, they will work it out don't worry. :)
