Hi, my 6 year old sow Melody just started today having laboured breathing, it looks exaggerated and obvious which she hasn't done before. I also noticed her bottom was wet, which can happen sometimes with her having long hair, but in addition with the breathing makes me think a possible urinary related issue and pain could be the cause of the laboured breathing. Is this possible?

It's a bit of a mystery as she's acting and eating totally normally, the breathing looks bad but she doesn't act sick at all and hasn't lost any weight, no other symptoms. However this has only just started so that could change. She already has a vet appointment for friday but I wanted to ask if these two symptoms can be related?

She had cancer last year which we successfully removed with surgery (huge tumour attached to stomach, pancreas and spleen, and a second in her uterus which she was spayed) and she completely recovered. I'm worried maybe it has returned, I hope not, she didn't have either of these symptoms at all with the cancer before though but maybe it has spread to other areas. Any advice appreciated!

When you day laboured breathing, Is she pulling her sides in? If so, then have her seen by a vet straight away and don’t wait until her appointment on friday

I don't think so, it just looks faster and harder, like her whole body moves with it. She's wolfing down veggies atm like nothing is wrong but obviously they mask well so I'm not sure how serious this is

A quick vet visit will put your mind at ease. If it’s nothing then that’s great. But if it’s the start of something you don’t want to leave it too long. Good luck.

Yeah, she has one already for Friday, that's the soonest I could get. I'll phone again tomorrow, maybe someone will cancel.
