hey,
I'm new to guinea pig ownership, I was wondering if it is OK to line the base of my guinea pig's cage with kitty litter? I've asked this question to a few people and I'm getting mixed responses. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you in advance! :ple:

I believe paper based or wood based pellets are ok to use. However I would avoid all other types. I wouldn't personally use cat litter for a few reasons. Firstly they are often scented which isn't going to be good for piggies respiratory systems. Secondly wood based ones although not usually scented can be quite dusty, especially once they get wet.
Unless you have a specific reason why you have to be using cat litter I would advice using some other form of bedding more suitable such as newspaper, dust extracted woodshavings, shredded card, carefresh etc.

The only suitable one would be paper pellets (breeder celect, papelit) but really they need to be used in conjuction with another substrate as it takes a lot to cover the cage base and they tend to move around which can be awkward for the pigs. They are great for using as a base layer or in litter/hay trays though.
