Another newbie question!

Which room do you all keep your indoor piggies in? I'm going to be getting some girlies in the next month or so. Just wondering if they'll be happier in the kitchen or the lounge or does it make much difference?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum :)!

Mine are in my...dining roo./kitchen. We have like a kitchen dining room area so they arnt directly IN the kitchen. They aren't really bothered by the noises of cooking or the washing machine anymore, they use to be but soon get use to it! We spend a lot of our time in the kitchen/backroom so its nice to see them jumping around and just nice to watch sometimes, they get to know you more and I personally think the fact there's mostly always someone around and people walk past all the time they arnt as skittish they won't run in when we go past or go up to the cage but that's just personal opinion.

I don't think it matters hugely just where you prefer them to be really :) I'd say where you spend most of your time so you get to know them really well and they get use to you and your voice etc. Only thing I can say about the front room would be the television? But I'm sure someone who keeps there's in there front room can tell you if that effects them in anyway.

One thing about the kitchen, they'll learn the sound of the fridge door = veggies! ;)

Ours are in the lounge as that is the place with the room. At our old house we used to have them in the dining room. As soon as we moved we had the space to have them in with us, I love watching them

Ours are all over the place atm lol, three sows in the kitchen, they seem fine, don't care about the washer or any other noises (they aren't staying there, they are going in my bedroom), we have Cesaro the solo boar in the living room, again fine with the noises, but also temp and will be going in my room, then 6 boars in my room (no they aren't all going in my room lol).

Thanks for the replies! It's good to know we won't be the only house taken over with piggies ha ha! My mum thinks it's a bit weird!
Think we'll go for the kitchen. There's lots going on but quiet times too.

Mine have an e,tended utility room.If I didn't have the dogs they would be in the living room with me

Ours are in the living room as there isn't enough room in kitchen... They can still hear the fridge door opening though

Lounge - so i can chat tothem and watch them.

Ours are in the lounge as that's the biggest, brightest and busiest place. let's them have most natural light and become less jumpy as there's always someone doing sth there. The kitchen wouldn't be a good choice for us. Apart from the space problem, it can get really hot in there when cooking. It's not far from the lounge to the kitchen, they can definitely hear the fridge door...

Mine are in the lounge/family room, because it's where we are most of the time. Our family room is actually the finished basement and there is a staircase down leading to a short hall into the family room, and the pigs are actually in the hall. They still see plenty of us (we have to walk past them to go anywhere) and the best part is I can easily block off the hall and let them free-range as they wish for most of the day.

We used to have ours in the living room, and they loved being where the action was - it definitely makes them tamer. Then we moved, and it was no longer practical to have them in the living room, but they've got a small room of their own upstairs. In some ways it's good, as the downstairs is no longer carpeted with hay, but I worry about the piggies getting bored on their own.

:D I have my three old ladies in the bedroom with me, and the other six girls in the spare room. I always sit on my bed in the evening and watch/ talk to the piggies for a while before going to sleep.

Wherever you have space that's pretty draught free and they will get plenty of company...

Ours are in the dining room at the moment. the odd temporary foster pig ends up in the living room and I have had them in the living room in past houses. They like being able to see what's going on as they are so nosey and I think they will hear the fridge opening regardless of where they are in the house!

Keep them in the room you are in most often. That way they'll get more attention and become friendlier.

Like you getting the piggies next month but I have just cleared a space (i.e. thrown out half the kids toys!) to make space in the dining room area of our open plan lounge-diner. I have a separate run that they can use in the lounge, one of the bedrooms or kitchen depending on who is in which room and what they are doing. They will have full view of the kitchen from their spot too! However now I have measured the height and depth of the c and c cage I have ordered (only checked for length before!) I am considering swapping the cage for book cases and DVD racks etc from the lounge portion.... Will build then decide! Either way open plan living and working from home means they are going to be hearing and seeing me a LOT!

I like the way these piggies have got us rearranging the house for them ha ha! Decided that mine will be based in the kitchen but have just bought an indoor run so they can also spend time in the lounge too. They'll also be getting some free range time on the kitchen floor which is what I used to do with my Ratties. Just getting everything set up ready for when the rescue centre come round. Hopefully they'll like it?!

Sounds a good plan - my boys live in utility but have play pens in the Kitchen and it works well to have them as part of the action! Good luck for the home check.
