Hia everyone

So once again my Rick had another flair up of blood in his urine and pain so he's been to the vet and today he had xrays which turns out he has calcification in his left kidney, how bad is this? I don't see an exotic vet till tomorrow and google is worrying me.

Thank you

I’m really sorry - I don’t have any answers for you but I do know how worried you must be. I’m afraid the internet can be both a blessing and a curse. I hope that you will get some answers tomorrow when you see the exotics vet.

Update:
So today Rick saw the exotic vets and it's not good news as well as kidney calcification he's also got calcification forming in a different part near the top of the kidney, he has a bladder stone (though my vet yesterday said he didn't) he's got a heart mumur and arthritis in the spine and legs. We were going to do bloods but as he had GA yesterday I didn't feel comfortable with him going under again, so for now we've planned to just do 0.8ml buprenorphine every 12hours calpol 0.2ml and every week he'll get laser therapy to reduce pain in his back and legs.

I have to monitor his weight at home and have been told soon as it starts hitting the 900g mark and falling then it's time to talk about putting him to rest. He's lost 500g since April apprently so.. not really hopeful.

I’m so sorry that it wasn’t better news. I hope that you can keep him comfy and that he will have many more happy days with you.

I just weighed him now before giving him his medication and his weight is 1027g from 1067g on the 21/09 - He is eating his hay and does nibble on cucumber and sweetcorn and romaine lettuce I don't understand the loss of weight.

I am very sorry for the bad news.

Please be aware that any painkillers can do only so much to cope and that you cannot stop the process forever. the weight loss is yet still small.

I'm back at the vets Wednesday for the laser therapy but I will be asking (if they were me, what would they do). When he doesn't have his buprenorphine he's ok but once he's had he's a little bit spacey.

Buprenorphine is a strong opioid painkiller; this is a normal side effect. Your piggy is on the highest level of pain medication possible.

I am very sorry; it is a very worrying time for you. We can sadly never choose what our piggies come down with and what their genetic inheritance is. Some things are unfortunately nastier than others. :(
