My cherished pig Nibble died aged about 4.5 in October. Nibble's brother, the lovely Munch, passed of bloat I think about aged 3.+ Robin was a replacement piggie but he is now alone.
The place I know in Hampshire, where I l.would get a rescue guinea from is shut because coronavirus.
Alsohould see if I can have him neutered and findhim.aa lady pig. He is 3.5.now.

Does anyone know of anywhere else in the area ?
What sort of guinea should I look for, what ages? Should I get more than one?

Truly appreciate any guidance
Thanks Gail

I’m so sorry for your losses.

You could neuter him and bond with a sow after six weeks. When it comes to compatibility then age doesn’t matter. It’s about whether the piggies like each other.

Have a look on the rescue locator link below and see if there are any near you. Don’t discount any that are a little further out. I’d also say don’t discount bonding him with a boar either.

Hope you find him a friend soon.

I’m sorry for your loss.

In addition to above, if you decide to bond him with another boar, then it can only be one boar (you can’t keep more than two boars together). If you neuter him and bond with him sows, then he can live with as many sows as you have the space and means for.

I'm sorry for your loss. I live in Dorset and I went all the way to Little Wheelers in Bristol to adopt Patsy. So don't discount those Rescues a bit further away.

Neutering is an operation so will always carry an element of risk. This risk can be greatly minimised by having a cavy savvy vet carry out the operation. A thorough health check prior to making the decision would be wise so a knowledgeable vet can talk to you about any risks to your piggy

It is wonderful that you are thinking about a companion for your lone guinea pig.
You sound like a very caring owner.

Have you contacted the rescue you used previously?
Despite Covid some rescues will make an exception and bond or rehome in the case of a single piggy on their own.

I agree with Swissgreys . It may be worth you contacting your local rescue. I adopted my boys during lockdown . We maintained social distancing and did not enter the property. I’ve adopted 3 pairs of boars from the same rescue which made it easier as I’d previously been vetted for suitability etc. Good luck I hope it works out for you and your piggie 🤞

Hi

I am very sorry for your loss!

Neutering is an option. Please take the time to read our comprehensive neutering information, which should answer all questions you may have in that direction: Neutered / De-sexed Boars And Neutering Operations: Myths, Facts and Post-op Care

You can find further companionship options in a special chapter in our boar guide: A Comprehensive Guide to Guinea Pig Boars

You can still contact Wheek & Squeak to ask whether they have a waiting list for when rescue dating is available again or whether they are still offering boarding and bonding during the stay.
