Bella is an outdoor pig (soon to be indoors) . Right now in London it’s super rainy ,wet and cold. Here’s what I’ve done in the cage to make it cooler
She has a ton of hay , tea towels covering the cage to insulate it . Her wooden bridge has lots of hay and towels drapped in and ovet it. Is there anything else I could do?

If you haven’t a hutch cover a large sheet of bubble wrap which you can buy off the roll is great for insulating and weatherproofing a hutch.

Look into buying snugglesafe heat pads. You heat them up in a microwave.
I’ve just got two for my piggies and last night they sat on one each keeping warm!

I too agree about the snugglesafes. My pigs loved them when I had outdoor piggies. The bubble wrap is also a good idea if you don’t already have a cover on your hutch.

You could also cover the front of the hutch with a fleece blanket overnight to keep out the worst of the chill

I put an igloo inside the sleeping compartment and was very generous with hay all around it.

Agree fleece blanket over outside and open areas and maybe a tarp thing over that if wet.

We brought my outdoor pig indoors last night because it felt so chilly out there and she hasn’t got her buddy to snuggle at the moment.

Thank you! Unfortunately we don’t have a microwave :( so we can’t get a snuggle safe. I will look for alternatives in a our next pets at home visit !
Bella does have a thermal cover on the cage and there is so much hay I can barely see her!

I had seen a self heating pad. It just radiates their own body heat back to them. Don’t know how good they are, but it may be an alternative.

I line my piggies hutch with fleece of vetbed in my piggies hutch. one of them had been sat on it for a while and when he got up I touched where’s he had been sat and it was warm. The only issue with using it with outdoor piggies is that because you need to stuff the hutch with hay, it means that there is always hay stuck to the vetbed and it can be a bit of a nightmare with the washing machine but there are ways to manage that (horse wash bags).

Bill and Ted have vet bed in their indoor bedroom, you are right it’s a nightmare to get the hay out of. I use a stiff hair brush and do it outside in the garden. I put the vet bed into an old pillow case with a draw string which I then knot in place before putting in washing machine, it seems to work quite well.

I’ve brought mine in tonight! I’ve ordered snuggle safes but used Hot water bottles last night, extra bedding/fleece and covered the door with a blanket as well their insulation cover but I just felt it still wasn’t warm enough! It’s going to drop to 5 degrees tonight, they’re only 6 months old xx

thank you guys!
It’s dropping to 6 degrees tonight and tomorrow will be warmer. Do you think she will be okay with a warm water bottle , plenty of hay and tea towel in the cage and on the doors? All thoughts appreciated :)

I’m sure Bella will be fine with all that in place

I found this idea in another thread.
You can take old fluffy pants and cut the bottom halfway.
Then your guinea pigs can go in the holes and snuggle in them. This worked really well for me.
I hoped this helped.

Is that American 'pants' ie UK English trousers? I think most piggies wouldn't be able to squeeze into and get very snuggly warm in my pants if you mean the underwear sort!
