Sorry for allllll the posts. I’m just trying to learn as much as I can about my new friends. How did you keep your pigs cool during that heatwave we had last year in the UK? I’m worried! Do ice packs wrapped in fleece work?

Hi

Please take the time to read our information links in our new owner guide collection. It is actually already all in there... :tu:
Getting Started - Essential Information for New Owners

We provide both a guide with all possible measures - including low impact/cost ones and our forum member experiences with trying them out and adapting them each for our personal situation from urban flats to village houses. It is the combination of lots of measures from keeping the room as cool as possible to minimise the risk of overheating in the first place to measures in the cages in case your piggies are overheating.

Our information guide, which is very comprehensive and really looks at all possible aspects connected with heat spikes and waves: Hot Weather Management, Heat Strokes and Fly Strike

And the thread in which forum members have been trying the various measures out during a prolonged heat wave and making them work for their individual situation from innercity flats to country homes and answering lots of practical questions around hot weather care: Hot weather warning for the UK - plan now to keep your piggies safe! (you can find a link to the other in either thread)

We are happy to answer any further questions that arise when reading the guides and clarify points in the guides which you struggle with.

We also usually run a live ongoing support thread for our members during extreme weather to exchange experiences and help each other make the best with what each of us can provide for their home and their piggies. ;)

Apologies - I’ve only just realised there is a search option for this forum 😂 haha

Plus you can access our information guides, in which much of what you have to otherwise search yourself is actually already collected and nicely bundled. ;)

You can access them in thematic order via the info shortcut on the top bar when you extend it. ;)

We kindly ask our new members to please not to post on old threads but rather start a new thread in the relevant section. It avoids confusion. We get lots of one-off visits. Depending on the age of a thread, the answers may also have moved on in the meantime.
