Hi guys,

So, as most of you know, Lettie is a lone piggie due to her neurological problems, she is a happy bunny most of the time, but we are finding at the moment that she is getting cold, especially at night, and no matter what we do to keep her warm we are running into problems!

She flat refuses to go in snugglers, hamburgers, boxes or anything enclosed/with a roof on, but will lay on a pad, unless she is in a terrible mood, in which case she throws everything everywhere then sits in a corner and dithers, chuntering to herself!

She loves to cuddle and snugges up with us, but has to have a 5/10 min run round first before she will allow us to pick her up, almost as though she is afraid of our touch even though she craves it. We are both sure this is part of her brain problems, poor girl!

Anyway, back to the problem! Lettie is by the radiator and seems happy now, but after a day or so she will insist on being back up in her loft, and wont settle until she is up there, or exhausts herself and has one of her aphasia fits :-/

Would a snuggle safe pad be an idea for her? What would you guys suggest? x

Is she an indoor guinea pig? If so, what is the temperature range of the room?

Yes all 3 are indoor piggies, but obviously Blue and The have eachother to cuddle :-)
We keep the heating set on 20and then turn up/put the elec fire on if we feel chilled as we both have fibro and need the warmth x

Heat pad that you can microwave can help, stays warm for up to 10-12 hours. I really do think it does make a difference. With BonBon, I put it on the roof of her house and put a fleece over to trap the heat. If I forget to do it, and it's cold outside, she becomes a bit unwell as she can't cope with the temp difference even though she's indoors.
Maybe bury it under the bedding? Wrapped tightly in a fleece so she can't burrow into it but benefits from the heat x

Thanks guys :-) I'm sure she is fie, her coat is shiny, her eyes are bright and she is (for the 3rd time today) doing her bowl dance, so she can't be ill or anything, We just worry about her as she is lone piggy and has no one to snuggle with!
x

I can second that.
I had a lone piggy, I took her on thinking she would slot into the herd, but she didn't (she did eventually but that was another story). The only place I could house her was in the kitchen, which has no heating. Though sheltered it does get cold in there during the winter nights, which was when she lived there. Like your Lettie, she wouldn't go inside snugglies but loved to lie on top. She loved the Snuggle-Safe heat pads so much that she actually learned to recognised the precursor sound of when she was about to receive one (the microwave going beep') and would actually wheek in excitement. I used to put her Snuggle Safe underneath a padded cushion to regulate the heat - to keep the pad warmer for longer, and to stop her from over-heating by lying directly on it. I did bring in an electric heater for her, but I didn't dare have it on at night, so the Snuggle-Safe kept her cosy.

She may not be cold though, it's lovely that your other two snuggle, but many guinea pigs don't, and choose to sleep separately anyhow so don't really keep each other warm at night. Nice that yours do :) It doesn't sound like your home gets really cold :)

Thank you @Critter !
I'm perished tonight, although I have had a long weekend, and I'm exhausted, so that might be it! I think Lettie Lou will be getting a Snuggle Safe for her Christmas box!

This is Bluey and Theo snuggled up together! Cute hey! Piggies!.webp
