Hi

Can anyone tell me how they keep their guineas warm in winter? Mine are indoors in a cage in the garage but I'm worried it will be cold for them in winter

I've seen the microwave hest pads but I'm worried about putting these in the microwave that has food in.

Any other suggestions? I've tried blankets but they just trample on them.

Thanks

I use the heat pads and just make sure the microwave is cleaned with F10 before and after. How about putting a blanket over the top of the cage. Put in fleece lined snuggle pouches and snuggle tubes and a box with a door cut out and filled with hay.

I use a insulating cover for the hutch, extra hay, more and more hay and also a couple of the heat pods for the microwave

You don't put the cover in the microwave, which is the part the piggies are in direct contact with - so you shouldn't be filling your microwave with fur and hay! And like Betsy said, you can disinfect really quickly with a spray of F10. Honestly, I wouldn't want to go through a winter without snugglesafes, they are fantastic for giving the piggies something to actually warm them - insulation will keep warmth in, but it won't generate heat.

Thanks for the ideas ☺️ I might try the heat pads then. Where do you get F10 from?

Try searching on amazon. I’ve recall bought some but forget where my last order was. I normally just search the cheapest f10 on offer.

Do you have an electrical supply in the garage. I use metal electric chewpoof heat pads that are on (low) all the time; there are various sizes. See link to Amazon below. Other people keep heaters with thermostats in their sheds; there are various kinds. It just depends how cold you think it will get and whether you are there frequently enough to heat up the snugglesafes

Mine always go in the microwave with the cover on otherwise they burn your fingers.

Oh right! Definitely want to freshen up the microwave after that then 😄 I don't find they are hot enough to burn me. Maybe each microwave heats them slightly differently - or else I have asbestos fingers!

Not just you. I don't microwave them in the covers either and don't find they get too hot
