Anyone else keep theirs in large enclosures outdoors in sheds? I have a large concrete, insulated, draught free shed with upvc window and thick wooden weather proof door. My partner built a mesh and wood wall to split the shed in half meaning the lads have 8ftx4 to live and run free in. I have 5, theyv recently been moved from two cages in my house to there and all are bonded well as they share a run daily already And iv never witnessed any problems. The enclosure if you'd like to call it that is lined with thick, rubber based lino, newspaper, shavings And hay, hides such as wooden houses and pigloos full of hay provided along with fresh hay and hay blocks, tunnels and toys provided. It's so nice to escape the household and spend time with them in there...

Anyone else have something similar?

It should be fine if it's insulated well, maybe you could test it by adding a temperature thermometer in there, so you can check it'll been warm enough?

We've been finishing it off cos it was left unfinished by previous tenant. We haven't jumped strait in and built them the enclosure, we kept an eye on the temp during last winter and through the warm weather, it feels comfortable in both and warm in winter, couple of fans provided and we've saved mesh to add to the window when it's open to protect them from local cats trying to have a nosey :)

We have something that sounds almost identical! Shed split in half so they have about 6'x4', it has a double story 3ft hutch in it and the rest it covered with tarp nailed down covered with paper and shavings. I'll try to post a photo, do you have pics of yours? I have a self heating b&m bed in there atm and have a snuggle safe for when it gets colder. Oh and this houses 2 young boars

Will get some piccies uploaded when I go on the laptop later on, it'll not let me upload from my phone :(

We've woken up to a very dark, miserable rainy morning here in the uk, it was so relaxing sitting in the shed listening to the rain bounce off the roof and window :)

I have something very similar in my garage. I have a thermometer in there to check on temp and am thinking of getting some of those greenhouse heaters - the electric tubes you can leave on to keep the temp up a bit. I think I can attach them to the top of the enclosure - it's far enough away from the pigs so it won't touch them. I normally bring them in over winter but have too many now. I'm also going to get draught excluders for the doors and maybe some heat pads too. I'll also stuff a little wooden house thing with hay.

My shed is insulated and has electricity installed so I have light and heat. ;)

The shed is insulated, even the roof is, its lovely in there during winter. Only thing we dont have but are working towards is getting electric in there, for now we have some pretty decent battery powered lights and fans that clip onto the shelving if needed, but will have electric in there by the time the summer rolls around :) the only thing i need to get done is, someone mentioned painting the concrete breezeblocks that are currently a horrible grey, although its insulated and plastered all on the outside, I'm not sure if itll make a difference in rushing along to paint it on the inside

Glitterpig, your shed sounds great - if its concrete walls with an insulated roof then you are already onto a winner as I have a timber shed and am now in the process of getting it all insulated with winter coming - bought it in the summer and with one thing and another just haven't had a chance to do that yet!

If you really don't like the look of the blocks you could apply a lining over them, with ply or similar - but that would really just be for aesthetics - I love having my boys in a shed, its really been worth it since the weather started getting darker, wetter and colder

havent posted pics of my setup yet but am determined to do so soon - and I am going to be having a celebration once I eventually get electric in there too! :bronco:

Oh I love shed threads!

Our shed has been boarded out with OSB boards that includes the roof too. OH plans to insulate the door with polystyrene and correx. I have five who live in one pen and a pair in the other. I usually have them on fleece but due to winter I've changed the pens to snowflake and the bedroom areas are still fleece as they are smaller areas. I went in to feed them and it was quite snug in there which is a plus!

I plan on using bubble wrap on the windows so no heat escapes, I'll try and get some picture taken and we even installed a light! A light!
Yes I do have to use the extension lead from the garage but still good bye cave man ages! Next thing is solar panel heating! XD

The above photos are my summer set up I have changed the bottom pen, the piggies don't like the hay bag so it's now loose on the floor :)
Both pens have an upstairs and downstairs love seeing the piggies running up and down the ramps.

Mine are also in a shed we have insulated the walls and have electric light in there , they have 2 storey cages and the free run of the shed floor- and in summer their only little paddock with hatch direct from the shed. This winter we plan to insulate the roof better and look at the flooring

are the heat pads good, can you wash the cover on them and do you piggies chew them?

I have one snuggle safe which is fab, it looks like a plastic frisbee and comes with a fleece cover. I put mine in its fleece cover and then in a spare fleece snuggle sack. I then put this under the hay in the bed. So far they haven't chewed it and the inner/main cover hasn't even got damp. They stay warm for about 8 hours when used properly. So far this autumn I've only half heated it as I'm very conscious it will get much colder outside, so I'm not sure how long the heat lasts done that way. I really would highly recommend :)

I got mine reduced to about £14 on Amazon

think I'm gonna try the self-eating pads in b&m first. coz of money.
mine have got one of those but I've never seen them go on it! I don't put it in their actual bed area though just because it's harder to keep clean
