those of you who use fleece, how do you provide hay without it going all over the fleece? as I imagine it would be a pain to get hay out of fleece again. I had the thought of a hay rack but it will fall out as well as them eating it, and be potentially messy. I also thought about a high sided box of sorts, and maybe use either some bendy sticks as a little ladder or cut a hole in the tray somewhere so most of the hay would stay in the tray hopefully.
It's hard to imagine as I dont have piggies so can't tell how actually good any ideas would be. any tips? :)

I dont find it sticks too bad tbh :), i just put hay in on top of the fleece for the pigs to snuggle in. Anything left on the fleece gets brushed/shaked off before being washed :).

Lots of people use different ideas. Some have hay lofts (if you have a C&C type) others use things like cat litter boxes of sorts. I use the bottom of an old cage, the pigs happily jump in and out and make very little mess on the fleece, just poops. You can instead of a gap in the side of a homemade box pop a wooden archway across, they love jumping on and off. Heres my setup.

I also just put mine right onto the fleece, it does get everywhere in the cage but the pigs like it. I then scoop most of it up when cleaning, and shake it out in the garden before putting it in a wash bag for the washing machine. I love it when I've just cleaned the cage and all the fleece is clear with the hay in a neat little pile, but it's for the pigs to live in, not me, and they just love making a mess :)

When I used fleece I used to fold a section under so the newspaper was showing and put the hay on there, it still got onto the fleece but not as bad.

My girls are housed on newspaper and hay now and they love it because they like to burrow under the hay.

Before i put any of my fleece in the washing machine i take it outside and sweep it with a brush from my sweeping pan and brush.
However i have an upstairs for all the food and so it stays up there and it's not a full size just a little about the size of a tea towel and i just have to clean that up the rest stays tidy really.(:

I have the hay in a rack, with a tray underneath. I find the hay does get pulled down into the tray and some ends up on the fleece (esp as mine as longhaired so it sticks to them more) but I just give it a good shake in the garden and it all comes off :))

My girls have a large cat litter tray full of hay and a hay rack. Their fleece gets some hay on it but all I do is give it a quick shake and 'hay' presto (:x) .... clean again!

Just out of curiosity, how often does the fleece need a wash?

I change mine every 2 days but there have been a few times when I've just not had a 'free' slot for the washing machine and it lasts for 3 days easily. I know some people do it less often than that and it's ok. :))

i do mine every 4-5 days, i cleaned mine out yesterday and I shall do it wednesday. I use a hay rack then shake all the hay off over my green garden waste bin then wash it one of these:

I put my washing powder capsule directly inside and the bag is a mesh like fabric so acts a filter for water but keeps the hay and hair inside. Then I just hang it on the line, even if its a bit rainy, i just leave it for a day or so (unless it's really throwing it down) so they can have a good blow on the line.
