Hi, I wonder if someone can help me, I am planning on getting some guinea pigs, and wanted to have a group of males, does anyone recommend anything on how to prevent them from fighting, or the chance of them fighting if they are from the same litter? TIA

The chances of them fighting are equally high if they’re litter mates. I would advise you to get a neutered boar (which you should be able to from a shelter) and a few sows if you really want a group. Is there any reason you specifically want boys?
I am the owner of two boys myself and they’re perfectly happy being together and I’ve never had an issue with fighting, but for most people things can be tense during the teenage months, it’s also all about character compatibility. I have no experience with sows so I wouldn’t know any better.

Usually the advice is two boys, or a boy and group of girls, or of course a group of girls. I of course have only experience with boys and even then have never had any issues with fighting. My current boys Smokey and Bacon both get along very well

:agr:It really all depends on the behavior of your boars, From my experience boars can be pretty territorial and need a bit more space than sows, I bonded my three week old boar to my 8 month old and they’ve been doing great. I’d say if your really looking for a herd it’s best to have a male (nurtured) and sows or all sows

Replying to add:
I am aware there are situations with trips of boys working out (someone on the forum has one, I can’t remember who... sorry!) but the chances get even more unlikely with every boy you add.

Editing time limit expired, so I couldn’t add to it
