So we went to pick up my boar today. His name is Charlie Brown or 'Charlie' for short and he had been in the shelter for 12 months! :(

I just wondered if anybody has any tips in preventing him from getting bored and lonely. I've bought him a few toys and he's going to getting plenty of cuddles. What else can I do?

I'm sure you will have heard this advice before, but just incase you havnt, the best possible thing you can do is take him boar dating to get a friend. It is very rare for a boar to be completely unpairable, so its best to try with someone experienced. You have nothing to loose :)

Otherwise, pop a teddy in there and spend as many hours a day with him as you can untill his friend comes home :)

Hello - just to back up what was said before - the best entertainment for Charlie is to have another guinea pig live with him. Which rescue did you get him from? Do you know if they can help with boar-dating, which is when your Charlie gets to choose his new friend?

Thanks for the advice. The rescue have attempted to pair him several different boars, he just doesn't get along with other piggies unfortunatly. He has my girls he can wave at from across the room :))

He may get on with another boar from a different rescue. You may like to try again as once he finds a friend he will be so happy.

Thanks for the advice guys but can we keep to the original topic. I know he would be happy with a friend but that wasn't what I was asking. Thanks :)

Sorry about that. A soft toy suitable for babies is a nice friend for him to have. You may like to stuff paper bags and cardboard rolls with hay for him to play with too. Guinea pigs love cabins and beds, anything they can hide in and snuggle up in.

Pile of fleece to nosy round in? My pig like rummaging round for herbs if I scatter them in their cage, but to be honest this doesn't last long as they are very greedy!

Do you have other gps (the girls you mention)? Perhaps he could live along side them rather than with them? Not that I've done it but I've noticed a few threads where people have guineas side by side, separated by cage or C&C, but still with interesting smells and sounds to entertain them? (Sorry to go off topic).

well i have a lone boar now too for my females were not getting along with him anymore (to much in their faces he was) so i put toys in, a small soft animal for him to lay next to and plenty of food, he gets floor time more than he use to now also to keep him happy, as i tried to get him a friend but l like your boy had no luck. i am sure with more cuddles and a nice size cage he should be fine, my boar seems fine to me.

Hi Sarah, which rescue did you go to? Just curious as you're in the north west like me and I'm keen to know if there any other gp rescues I haven't discovered yet!

My boys have fun with a long piece of cardboard. I just bend it into a V shape and place it upside down. They run through it, knock it over and chew it. They also have a basket they love to play with. They run laps around it, snuggle inside it and sleep or try and eat it.
