Just wondering if anyone has experienced the antibiotic Karidox (0.22ml once a day) and anti-inflammatory Metacam dog (0.7ml twice daily) medicines with Guinea pigs?

My Charles has had an X-ray and it’s shown some patterns in his lungs (they aren’t sure what it is but apparently isn’t pneumonia).

Will these help? I’m always worried about the side effects of medicine…

It's hefty dose of Metacam but my Rainbow Piggy Silver Fox Christian was prescribed that amount and he tolerated it well. Not had any experience with the other med so can't comment on that.

Did the medicine make him better? Seems like soooo much :/ I’m tempted to just give it once a day or less amount twice a day…

Yes to both at similar doses. Metacam always seems to be well tolerated and I’ve personally not had any issues with the doxycycline either :)

If you mess about with the doses that have been prescribed for antibiotic then the bacteria causing his illness will not be killed properly. He could then have continuing problems and illness. Also, you don’t want to risk antibiotic resistance.
If you don’t give the correct metacam dose then he may remain in pain.
Please give the doses as prescribed by your vet.

Keep up with daily weight checks so you can monitor hay intake. If his weight, so consequently hay intake, drops then step in with syringe feeding him.
Metacam will not affect his appetite.

It didn't make him better as he had spinal arthritis what is did do was keep him pain free.

:agr: A vet would not prescribe a dose if he/she didn't think it was appropriate. If you think the dosage is a bit high then you can query it with your vet. Your vet should tell you why he/she thinks such a dose was prescribed.

Thank you so much guys I really appreciate it. I will give the vet a ring to see about why the dose is so high, in the meantime I will give as prescribed.
