Hi there! After the somewhat traumatic escape of my little boys into the neighbours building site of a garden (my little sister put them in the run for me, and checked all the sides but one! Sneaky little pigs squeezed out of a tiny dip in the lawn that she didn't even see) I decided I wanted to make sure they feel extra safe and loved. We spent just over an hour and countless guilty tears from my sister trying to catch them. In the end, with the help of my mum, my sister, a kindly neighbour, a friend and her guest, we caught the three little pigs. Bertie had trapped himself under some huge planks of wood, but eventually stopped running away. We were so worried that Peanut and Jasper were still at large, and with my sister and I well and truely INSIDE the thorny holly hedges of our neighbour, crawling around on our quite battered hands and knees we were in no position to make a dash for the spritely young pigs. I suddenly heard rustling coming from my own garden, and saw the small furry bottom of Jasper, heading home! The neighbour and my mum raced (ish) into our garden and trapped them under a flower shrub, where they stayed until I had climbed into this shrub too, to retrive them. After all the excitement, the pigs slept for almost a whole day!

I have currently got a medium sized shoebox and a 'mango box' both with two holes cut (for easy escape and niggle reduction) in their cage. I have notice that the boys tend to sleep one pig per box, with poor little Bertie having no box! He has been sleeping under their hay rack. Though I cover their cage with a big fleece every night to protect them from draughts and give a sense of security (I hope, anyway) I felt that little Bertie deserved his own home. After lots of googling and you-tubing (someone used all my bobbin thread and I had no idea how to replace it, ahhh!) I found. this great tutorial:

Cozy by LilyGrace

I am a crafty sort of person, but sewing is a skill I never developed. I fished about in my mum's materials suitcase and found a nice peice of red dotty fabric that matches their 'lid'. I followed the directions almost exactly, and hemmed around the fleece cuff to add stability. It turned out okay, and most importantly, Berti has claimed it as his own! He disappears in there when his brothers head for their boxes. I tried to get some nice pictures of him, but I could only get his lovely fluffy butt.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place!

That's a great job you've done there, and a happy Bertie proves this.
What an absolute nightmare of a day though, but a very happy ending. Hope your lumps, bumps, scrapes and cuts are better very soon.
I bet they thought it would be a great idea to run off and explore, and probably don't know how lucky they are to be safe, though I am very sure they would miss their lovely home and their humans before too long.

p.s. I voted for home-made and independently-produced. I like to make my own, but sometimes I a) haven't the time and b) sometimes see something that looks much nicer than anything that I could produce :)

So pleased all is well that ends well. Biggest fear is piggies getting out, well done for rounding them all up.

The cozy looks fantastic. Well done :) Are you going to make anymore?

@sport_billy my little girl whoc is sadly now at rainbow bridge, worked out that if she gnawed at the poles that you stick vertically through loops and into ground to construct a run, that she could work them up wards and she would push through.
Thank gully my border collie kept shadowing her around harden or i wouldn't have noticed as was cleaning them out...

I've just been reading you post about the guinea great escape. I remember when my Bess made a bid for freedom - I'll never forget the sight of her beautiful ginger bum disappearing into the privet hedge ! I managed to get my hands around her waist just in time . It took me a good 2 hours to recover from the shock!

I'm so pleased your guineas are all back home safe.

Thank you! I quite agree with those answers, I wish I was a bit more competent at sewing, my next challenge will be a crocheted one!

A lady local to me makes fab cosies, tunnels, hammocks, cage liners etc from fleece for piggies/rabbits etc

Thanks for the link, I will hop over and check it out now.

Thank you, I might make them one each so there's no feelings of favouritism! (I probably think too much about that)

Oh my goodness, how scary! Good dog, helping you find them. For all the interest my cats show when they're INSIDE the run, neither one seemed to notice that they'd got out!

I'm so glad you caught her! One of the reasons we were so worried was that we'd not seen them escaping, and thought they really could have gone anywhere at all.

How frightening! Glad they're safe and sound now :)
Those cosies are great

Thank you everyone for reading my piggy story, commenting on the cosy, and for your well wishes! I sincerely hope they won't go for a sequel. Bertie, Peanut and Jasper are all settled back home and have since recovered nicely (though when I come in from work on a sunny day, I still go straight to the garden to check that they've not busted out!).
