Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to guinea pig keeping, having just got two girls before Christmas. One of them has since had two surprise babies and so I'm trying to make their home as enriching as possible without taking up too much floor space.

I made a hay bag to hang from the side, which they love, however they all seem to love jumping inside the bag. It's 10cm off the base and even the 9 day old babies are able to launch themselves up and inside the bag. It's so cute to see their little heads poking out of the top.

I'm thinking of making a much wider one (150% wider) so that more of them can fit in without arguments breaking out and it becomes more of a tunnelling experience.
I can't really see a problem, but then, as I said I'm a bit of a newcomer to guinea pigs.

What do you think, is there a danger that I'm overlooking. I am considering putting a roof over the corner where the hay bag is for safety.

personally.. i would be worried about them not being able to get back out or getting tangled in it... ... maybe make a bag with the top closed ? (i made one once and my fattie bum bum pippin got in and my daughter thought she was dead - it was so traumatic it went in the bin ! scared me to death and put me off using one again lol ! )

As long as they can get in and out easily without the risk of getting trapped then I don't see a problem. BTW that pic is adorable!

I bought a hay bag a couple of weeks ago and one of my girls just LOVE to jump inside it! Wish I could work out how to post a photo as it's the cutest thing ever! She jumps out of the top of it though as it has an open top, I assume that's ok..... she's pretty agile!

All of mine love getting in their hay bags, and before that their hay racks (since removed).
Personally we made our own hay bags, and just made sure the holes were big enough for them to easily get in and out, and have never had a problem.
Your hay bag looks great and your piggies are very sweet.

I think that maybe you should just not make those bags for their cage. When I got my knew one, I had this hay thing that looks like a dog container for food. She got stuck in there and now she is out until she is older.
