So I was kindly given the idea of joining two cages together I have the 100 and the 120. The bases are different heights - do you think this is a problem or should I try and get two the same? Also is this ramp too steep?

Thanks for your help! I'm not the most practical of people.

The ramp does look a bit steep to me, and maybe a bit unsteady. I think if you could sort the ramp out it'll be good.

With a ramp I suppose the different heights of the cage bases wouldn't matter but I would say the ladder is a bit too steep and you might find the guinea pigs don't want to climb it. Will there be anything going around the sides and what bedding will you use? How many piggies are going in this cage? Have you thought of purchasing a cage of that size but something that won't need much meddling with- like a C & C perhaps? I'll tag @sport_billy @Flutterby @Wiebke

Thanks all! I had been asking about getting a 140/160 but someone kindly suggested this. I don't think c&c would work as well as I have three young children so was apprenhensive about them trying to get in etc!

My plan was to buy some fleece liners in each cage. i am very open to suggestions and advice about the ramp etc. Maybe I can buy a longer wood bridge thing?

Thanks again xx

It is easier with two cages that are the same.

Here is the solution I had for a few weeks until I switched to my first C&C cage eight years ago; whenever I was not around, I would pull the ramp out and push the cages together.

You can also consider getting a plastic pipe from a DIY place and sawing a hole in the sides to connect the cages without the need of a ramp.

I have a 160 and a 120 joined together. The bases are different heights, but the tops of the cages are the same height, so it works ok. I did put a ramp in, but my pigs seem to prefer leaping over from one side to the other.

You can see what I mean here, sort of. I've used cardboard to make a roof support, as it was sagging a bit! :D Ultimately, I want to upgrade them to a c&c, but this is working well enough for now.

Thanks very much Wiebke! I'm thinking maybe I will just get a larger cage and get rid of these ones. Would 140 be big enough for two boars? They get on pretty well but have the odd teeth chatter and purr. Xx

It seems a shame to get a new cage when you already have these two and your pigs would have much more space with the two joined together. How old are your pigs? I'm pretty sure my three would just jump over that divider without the need for a ramp. If not then a step/box on each side would work I'm sure.

Yes, a 140 should be big enough. You could always consider adding a mezzanine platform to allow them to get away from each other. I am lucky to have a husband who loves wood working, but even wiring a barbecue rack onto the bars for a little extra hay loft with a sleeping area underneath can add even more space if you think creatively. ;)
