Poor Jeremy has hurt his foot or his leg - we've just noticed he is not putting any weight on it, he is eating like mad and seems OK but is not jumping up onto his platform for food.. he had a bath before and tried to jump up the side, would he have broken it or is it more likely to be a bad bruise? We can't get him to the vets tomorrow..

Hi, poor little piggy. I am no expert I am afraid. If he is eating surely that is a good sign that it is not bothering him too much. Maybe he has just jolted it and its feeling a bit uncomfortable at the moment. My rabbit did something similar once, jumped out of my arms to the floor and was limping etc. but within a day or two he was fine. See what the vet says tomorrow to be on the safe side though. Hope Jeremy is better soon.

Joy xx

Katie, he has probably bruised it, if it were broken I think you wou see a lot more distress from the poor lad :...

just keep an eye on him, he should be ok. Have you picked him up and had a look at the leg or tried to touch it? If he moves his leg quite quickly without obvious discomfort. then I would say he will be fine :)p

It could be the start of bumblefoot which can be a nasty infection in the foot pad which can spread to the joint if not treated. Does he have any cuts on his pad or does it look red, inflammed or swollen? Does the skin look like it is coming off the pad? These are classic sypmtoms of it. Otherwise he may have twisted it if he has jumped down and landed awkwardly.

Hope he is ok Katie. I would look up Bumblefoot but I do hope it is something simple. After all what you have been through lately with the lads, you could do with catching a break. x

Bumblefoot does not affect mobility, and is not painful, especially in the early stages.

Sounds like bruising or a sprain which will heal by itself.

This is how Sunnys started but it does sound like Jeremy bruised it. I would keep an eye and he should be fine in a few days. Of course, if it seems to get worse or any of the other limbs become affected, then vets it is! :)

Hi All,
Thanks for the replies - we got back from our hols yesterday evening and collected the little monsters today - Jeremy is still not putting weight on his foot despite the holiday home telling us all was fine when we called from holiday to check up on them all, so we took him to the vets who checked him out. Apparently nothing is broken but the vet thinks he tore a ligament when he tried to jump out of the bath. He has had a pain killing jab and is now very angry and uncomfortable. Anyone know how long a torn ligament takes to heal? (He is eating fine but is wriggling about on his side trying to get comfortable). :(

Hi Katie, nice to see you are back!

No idea on that ligament thing, I'm sorry - just wanted to welcome you home :)

Hopefully it won't be too long with care and light excercise I suppose.

Could take up to 3 or 4 weeks, they are slow to heal but will do so.Give him a soft vetbed or fleece to lie on.

Welcome back Katie!
Dont know about piggy ligaments but I tore ligaments in my ankle a few years ago and as Mary says, it took a month or more to feel a bit better and 3 months before I was completely pain free!

Just a quick update - Jeremy is a lot better, he perked up the day after the visit to the vets, we think the pain killer either outraged him and he was sulking, or it made him feel funny, anyway he was back to normal the next day, and has had a few toddles round the conservatory since then. We didn't give him the metcam because he went so funny after the injection and didn't seem to be uncomfortable. He is putting more weight on his foot gradually and seems fine within himself, happily munching!

Here he is!
