Hello again.

What are peoples thoughts of regular worming? Does topical ivermectin kill internal worms/parasites and how does this work? Or do you have to give the ivermectin paste for internal worms/parasites, because it works differently?

Piggies in the UK do not tend to have problems with worms so regularly treating preventatively would not be recommended. You should only treat for it if they actually have a diagnosed case (which is not common ).
And to my knowledge, topical ivermectin would not do anything for internal parasites

Guinea pigs aren’t the type of pet where you need to give preventative meds regularly. With regards worming (and anything else), treatment should only be used if tests have shown that the parasite (or whatever other symptoms) is present.

I don’t know anything about worming but, in my very limited opinion, I don’t know that anything topical would work if it is internal worms.

Has your piggy been diagnosed with worms or some other parasite?

No

I've had pigs for 10 years with no worm concerns. In more tropical countries there might be different parasites but in the UK there shouldn't be a problem. If your pigs have any upset gut issues there are other things to look at first! I vaguely remember one poster who actually had a worm diagnosis but their piggies came from some sort of farm-like place (maybe a petting zoo?) where lots of different species had been on the same outdoor area for months. Many people put their pigs outside on the grass and of course other wildlife will have been on the same area but even in these circumstances you just don't get reports of worms.

My concern is I have to cut my grass from fields or places where other animals may have walked, I always try to pick/cut grass that looks clean and always wash's it good. I just was wondering if a guinea pig did end up with worms/internal parasites, would normal spot on ivermectin work and kill the parasites/worms , or would it have to be a ivermectin containing paste for internal.

Worms are not common in UK piggies
If they were unfortunate enough to get worms, then you would need to consult with a vet to get the correct treatment, but to my knowledge a spot on would not work on internal parasites.

:agr:

Worming treatment is only required if worms have been identified in a stool sample analysed by a vet and then the vet will prescribe the necessary treatment. It’s very rare.
