to fleece ha ha ha the pigs love it they have been pulling it up a lot though and going underneth is this ok x

it makes messier cleaning for you :))

Piggies love to burrow! I give mine extra pieces of fleece to play with. It tricks them so they think they have burrowed when really they haven't :)) It's a win-win.

Ha ha ha how often do * change it? It will make it easier to pick up poop i guess cause before I was using hay xx

I change the big fleece once a week but my pen is 180x100 cm. The little extra fleecec I change every second day, or every day if they've weed on it.

I often use the hoover, but it fils up the bags in no time at all! Getting rather expensive!

i changed to fleece a few months ago & would never go back i love it the boys love it even more so now they have pink fleeces :)p

i change them on tuesday & friday xx

Good move! I change mine every third day. Poop pick up was once a day but think it's going to be twice daily now unless I do serious expanding.

What kind of fleece do you have? Pretty?

You are giving us away as the fleece nerds we are, Lisa!

...so... is it pretty? is it? :))

(I've bought more fleece... Washing it tomorrow :) )

OOOH I can't wait to see! :(|)

Planning a big cut to size fleece shop soon!

I'm sharing Poo patrol with Dave (dont think hes happy) so cleaning about twice a day. Yeah there nice stripy purple ones ha ha i dont think they want to chew it they keep bringing it up to snuggle in though xdrool

Can I ask you guys how to use fleece? I just got my guinea pigs, and this summer I am making them a nice big house, and now I am looking into alternatives for the regular stuff. I am a total noob when it comes to guineas, but I want to learn fast so they don't have to suffer from the lack of knowledge.

haha me and ell do poo patrol as well hahahaha.

iv put another fleece in for mine to cuddle up to the LOVE IT they burrow inside it you go to the cage and you cant see them hahaha xx

Hi all...

can someone explain fleece and what to do with it.. would love to join the fleece gang!

The fleece gang are generally people with indoor piggies who have decided that lovely soft fleece is the best option for our pigs to live on.
You can get cheap fleece blankets from all sorts of places, e.g. Primark, Dunelm Mill. Never wash the fleece with softener as it will stop the fleece wicking away moisture. Lay the fleece on top of old/ cheap towels or (if you want to invest) on washable incontinence pads (made for human beds). Wee goes through the fleece and is absorbed into the underlayer.
I also have litter trays with megazorb and hay which my pigs like to burrow in and do a lot of poo/ wee in when they eat the hay.

If you look in the housing section you'll find loads of examples of fleece cages. :)

Might be a stupid question... but do you wash the washing machine after you wash the fleece and towels from the piggie cages?

I don't. But I shake the fleece outside and then spend a good ten minutes brushing off hair and hay so my machine doesn't block up. Some people put their piggy washing inside an old duvet.
I am trying out the vanish stuff that kills germs at the moment as I tend to wash at quite a low temperature but I haven't made my mind up if it's necessary. Every now and again I run my machine empty on a hot wash.

p.s. no such thing as a stupid question here. :(|) Ask anything.

another silly question (sorry) how many layers of fleece etc and where do you get all the incontience sheets from please thanks

type in "washable incontinence pad" into amazon and you'll find different options (and then worry about what your internet provider will think of your bodily functions...)

I use one layer of fleece and one inco pad. They are backed with a waterproof fabric so it would be no use to put one on top of the other. With towels I used two or three layers. I didn't have towels big enough for their cage so they overlapped a lot and I tried to get the three layers under sleeping huts.

As for the washing machine the point of it is that it washes the dirt away. For the hairs and small bits of hay I first shake it outside and then wash stuff that have been in contact with the piggies first. Then I wash the inco pads (which have no hairs or hay as they have been covered with fleece) and then I normally do a load of my own towels, linens or underwear. The result is a hair free machine :). I alternate between 60 and 40 degrees and don't use any antibac stuff.

you can wash the fleece in a duvet cover but I purchased a wash bag http://www.washingnet.org.uk/washing_bags.html and for £10.00 including delivery thought it was well worth it! I still give the fleece a good shake but don't spend ages getting the hay off as I know if any comes off during the wash I am confident that the washing machine will not get blocked up.
