One of my girls had a suspected cyst and we have an ultrasound scan at 9am tomorrow.
She has been very moody for the last few days and we are used to some wheeks and drama. Generally, They seek comfort in each other but sleep separate etc.
Tonight, out of nowhere there was some terrible screaming in the cage. Not your usual stuff, my kids ran down from upstairs and it woke my husband who has flu and is in bed! Everything in the cage was turned upside down and I had to grab Betty from the cage just to separate them.
So I have separated them but kept them next to each other in cage but Peggy (the one with suspected cyst) is frantically trying to get to betty. She is usually very scared and doesn’t come out much. She is literally trying to climb the bars of her cage! Some one please advise me if I’m doing the right thing 😩😩😩

Oh dear what a shame, sadly I can not advise, I only have boars, but I’m sure someone will come along and advise you.

Hi!

The screaming may have been submission screaming and not pain but if you are worried please check for bite wounds. Sows rarely fight but very occasionally it can happen. Hormone spikes from ovarian cysts, especially in combination with a season can really change sows.
Sows: Behaviour and female health problems (including ovarian cysts)

In view of the scan first thing tomorrow morning, I would recommend to keep them separated; they will calm down and it is not going to break the bond unless it has already been. See how they are when they meet again on neutral ground outside the cage.

Here is more information:
