Because the weathers been so cold I've made my guinea-pigs a temporary bed until I can get the right things to make them a cozie. I've got a tissue box, cut the lid off it and put 2 layers of fleece in it. I know it's not very warm but it's better than nothing. I'm worried about my guinea-pigs chewing the fleece, it's fine if they chew the box but I don't know if fleece would hurt them if they did try and chew it. They've had vetbed as a bedding before and I didn't see them chew that so do you think they'd chew the fleece. Also, I didn't cut the fleece very well so it's a bit ragged, would that encourage them to chew it? If it did I'd cut a new piece. Sorry for so many questions :) Thank you

I would think its unlikely they'd chew the fleece if they left the vetbet alone, best keep an eye on them for a bit and see. Mine like to have a wee nibble on fleece but not for long :)

ok thank you, and how should I secure the fleece on the box? At the moment it's just placed on but when the guinea-pig sits in it I think it's going to all come off the sides.

If the fleece is a bit bigger than the box then thats ok cos the piggies will just burrow into it or under it, it really doesn't need to be attached to the box at all. I sometimes put a pile of fleece squares in a corner of the cage and mine sit on it, crawl under it or burrow right in and go to sleep. Are they indoor piggies?

Thanks, but I'm trying not to use anything like that the guinea-pigs could swallow, I know it doesn't leave much choice on what I could use. Also because it's made of cardbord I'm quite sure this bed will only last them a day or 2 before they chew it to bits and then they'd find the staple and blue tac. I was thinking a peg but I don't know if they'd chew it? I've got wooden pegs.

I would worry about blu tack and staples :(
Also with pegs you would need to be very careful, if they chew it then it could ping off and hurt them.

I've heard of animal safe glue, it's quit tough.

me too

You could stitch it - would be hard but doable.

I wouldn't bother though myself I think it would work without stitching.

Thank you :) I've taken your advice LisaJazz and just left it. It's quite soft and I hope it will be comfy for the guinea-pigs. It's too small to fill with hay but I'm going to put hay around it in the hutches so I hope they'll be warm enough tonight. I wish my guinea-pigs could be inside :(
