Hi!

I got another baby pig on friday so thats 4 boys now! the problem is i had to separate them today as my oldest pig keeps duffing up my archie who is about 6 months old, the oldest one was bleeding in his mouth and archie has a cut on his lip i was just wondering if this was the right thing to do or should i have kept them together to sort it out? Boddy is 2, Archie is 6 months ,scruffy is 4 months and biscuit is the new baby about 3months old!

I really didn't want to separate them but i thought bobby was really going to hurt archie so i thought it was best. Can you advice me on wether this is the best thing to do? 8...

I would say that because Archie is 6 months old he's probably trying to become more dominant, and Bobby would've naturally tried to uphold his position as lead piggie and put Archie back in his place. Generally the rule is once blood has been drawn they should be kept seperate. You could try to reintroduce later on once they've calmed down a bit on neutral territory, but if this doesn't work you could bond each of the older ones with one of the younger pigs and see how that goes.

But seperating them was definately in their best interests, you prevented any further fighting from going on. :)

Four boars together is a lot - especially with your younger ones coming up to the "macho" phase. You might have more success for pulling them through this instable phase by splitting them up.

Thats great thanks alot i have put them both with a younger pig all is well and calm in the hutch thanks god so i think i will just keep them as they are for now!
Think i had better make another outside run

Thanks for your answers i am glad i done the right thing now! would it be wise to get them to a vets for the snip or would this not help!

Neutering doesn't work with boars, being dominant is like hard-wired into their brains or something. lol boars are so difficult at times.

Thanks alot for helping out!

Went up this morning with breakfast for the boys they all seem happy with who they are now living with, bobby with scruffy and archie with biscuit so i suppose i had better just leave them as they are, i can hear bobby squeaking think he is shouting for archie it's so sad i wish they would just get on!
The only problem now is i only have one run for the pigs so i think i will have to do split shifts in it till i get another one what a pain! runs are a terrible price to so it mightbe cheaper to make one thats goning to take some taking round lol........

I have 8 intact boys & unless i'm outside in the run to supervise them all together they go out in rota in pairs :(|)

I'm babysitting two boars just now. Since their stay is temporary, I don't have any wish to really work on bonding them with my trio of boars who work well together.

While the two dominant boys from each group seem to spend a lot of time threateneing each other through the bars of their cages, they can't get at each other. It's also an indication that they will probably go to heads if they are let out together.

So, I've been having separate floortimes for each group to keep bickering to a minimum. It is hilarious to watch Squeeky and Cashew go to town on the floor after the other has been out. "this is mine. this is mine. MINE MINE MINE!" I can hear them say as they scent mark everything again :D

Lol boys they are terrible mine are also out in pairs for a couple of hours at a time,Mind you if i stay in the garden Archie will have a walk around the grass on his own i think he likes to wind bobby up "haha look at you in there whilst i get the whole garden" sort of attitude. they are funny but it's also sad to see them not loving each other.
But i suppose thats it now i have tried to put them back together but they are just rumbling at each other and kicking out so for their own safty they are better of with out one another........
