What should I do?!

I feel awful! And it won't stop bleeding.
I'm sure it looks worst than it is, but it looks terrible.

Help! :o

Have you got any cornflour? put some of that on and it should help stop the bleeding.

I did this with my Maisie once and it worked a treat. Always looks so much worse than it really is in my opinion.

Try and not feel too guilty, it's an easy mistake to make :)

juwst hold your finger over it for a few minuets if he will let you... it will stop quickly...
i did this with scratch it always looks worse then it actually is...:))

I know. He has all black nails too so it's so hard to judge!

Feet bleed like mad, its worse than it looks! As others have said, apply pressure. It might be worth looking into getting a caustic pencil, often called "quick stop" pencils? I have some for my dogs primarily, as they have black claws. If you do catch the quick, just "draw" on the nail with the pen, and it will stop the bleeding.

You can get them from here...

Clean it with slightly salted water - its important that you keep in clean. And keep an eye on it for any signs of infection. You'll be looking for swelling, redness, oozing.

I'd use a clean tissue or cotton wool and apply pressure.

Don't worry too much, it should stop soon, and it doesn't hurt as much as they act like it does sometimes. :) Some animals don't even notice if you cut into the quick, and some make a big fuss, but they will be ok.

This happened to my guinea pig, I rang the emergency vets cause it was late at night when it happened but they told us to put super glue on it but we just got a damp cloth and applied it to her nail and after a while it stopped but started again cause she was biting it so I just put her back in and left her, it's healed quite well!
I was crying when all this was happening so I know what you will be like!
If you have any flour you can use that aswell and also P@H have stop blood swab something like that they are called they are £6 for 24 I have them in just incase it happens again!

"Trimmex" is also good - about £5.00 per pot - comes in a big pot though which can go hard if left in damp conditions over the years.
