I’ve clipped the quick 🥹

My daughter moved out last year and she was my piggy helper. So I tried to clip the piggy nails by myself and I’ve clipped Pebbles quick. I feel really bad. He didn’t even flinch though.

I tried putting it in flour but it doesn’t seem to be helping.

I’ve popped him back into his cage. Will he be ok? I have visions of it not stopping and him bleeding to death.


The nail is still long so I’ve not clipped it particularly short.

I felt so bad when I did it too. It should stop bleeding soon. I'm sure he will forgive you once he's had a few treats.

The quick is a blood vessel which runs down the nail. If it is cut then it bleeds quite a bit.
If the bleeding doesn’t stop within 15 minutes then you need to take your piggy to the vet straight away.

Hi

It should stop bleeding between 10-15 minutes. Use some kitchen paper or clean rag to rest the bleeding foot on. You can disinfect gently with saline solution or F10 ntiseptic concentration once the bleeding has stopped.

Please contact your out-of-hours vets promptly for advice if the bleeding is not stopping. Put your piggy on the back (head above chest height and feet in the air) to help slow the blood flow. This is thankfuly very rare.

The quick and the nail should regrow.

He seems fine. I feel bad. It’s stopped now. It took longer than I thought. But it seems ok now. I’ll keep an eye on it.

Awww, I hate that. Tomie and Misa both have dark nails and it's so easy to clip the quick like that. It should stop on its own and be fine. Maybe some treats are in order as an apology!

I wimp out of cutting my piggie's nails and ask Aunty Lilli to do it. Thea has really curly nails because of her age, Misty has 1 curly nail and Miss Bramble screams Blue Murder before I even get the clippers anywhere near her nails!

I always had a dish of cornflour at hand.
Phoebe was such a wriggler that every time I did her nails one of the quicks was cut.
They heal quickly and food helps
