what do you suggest for the roof?
as you can see its horrid :a19:

Very smart cage! If it's going to be outside, you might want to make sure that whatever you tile it with is completely waterproof and sealed round hte edges. Before I brought mine inside, I staple gunned some of that silver insulation on the roof underside, to keep the warmth in and the sun out (iyswim). Maybe some of that under some plywood or lino?

Lucky piggies!

should i seal around the edges of the tile squares inside on the floor?i'll be keeping it inside til summer as they only going to be 5 weeks oldxoxo i just don't know how to sort the roof. so do you mean put the silver stuff on inside of roof as it is? or use the silver stuff instead of that manky green stuff i have lol so descriptive arent i lol!

the cage looks great i love the way the white makes it so much more friendly looking !

does lok lovely doesnt it, i just dont like dark dingy wood! it's called pebble shore, its same colour as my bedroom LOL! i'm going to be drawing on the door on the front but not sure what yet..

there's a ramp that goes onto top of that section on left (dont know what that is?) but it's really horrible i'm going to chuck it! any ideas how to make a new one?/

it looks great so far.

how about covering the roof you have with that roof waterproof felting material stuff?

the old roof has damp on the inside? but if i felted over the top of the whole roof do you think that'd be ok then? is probably easiest way isnt it.

i'm going to clear varnish the outside tonight so it's kinda water proofed... any ideas for a ramp?

could i wrap the old ramp in carpet do you think??/

thanks for comments everyone!
feel free to chuck any ideas my way

personally i think it would be ok if you scrubbed the old roof with mould remover, let it air for a few days and then covered it inside and outside with the roof felting.

the ramp, i have no idea!

ok that's what i shall do thank you! shall i just get one huge bit piece of felt and literally wrap the roof in it and tack it all into place then?

i wonder if i could do same with ramp lol flippin ramp! malletheadmalletheadmalletheadv lol==

sounds good to me for the roof!

i have seen somewhere about someone re-vamping a ramp, i think they did something like that, but they added sides to avoid falls. I have seen several threads where piggles have broken legs falling from ramps. :(

maybe i need to add sides to it then... gonna leave the ramp for a bit. hutch first then roof! then ramp. i've got 3 weeks!:(|):(|):(|)

It's the base that should be sealed as much as possible, becauae they do like to poop and wee in the corners. The smoother you can make it the better for cleaning, or have something completely removable which can be washed/scrubbed/disinfected. This is why lots of us use fleece which can be taken out. I use a piece of rubber matting in my outside run hut (used for horse stables) and it's great as it can be cut to size, is waterproof and acts as an insulator. I can just lift it out for cleaning.

thanks katie, i've out the lino tiles down, then was going to do the fleece thing? but not sure 100% how lol. i've got some waterproof cloth tape which i was thinking of using on the roof! but maybe i should put it round the edges of floor too?

do i do newspaper then towels then fleece? that was my plan?

just gotta seal around the edges of the floor and put new locks on and i think we're done!

can anyone see anything else that needs doing? i dont know how they're going to get onto the top of that little house thing? i have a ladder but it's horrible so dont want to put it in..

just to clarify i have the inside right.. i put newspaper then a towel and then fleece? is this right? and i have to wash the fleece 3 times before using it?

many thanks xx>>>

Ohhh wowie it looks amazing. I have this hutch but double, I'm thinking of painting/ 'doing it up' for Percy-Roo and Tabs in the summer also thinking along the lines of painting it white and adding floor tiles.

For the ramp can you make an enclosed ramp? Or a ramp with high sides? Another suggestion is to add a box mid heights so they can climb ontop.:)

Looks fantastic- love it x)
I adore 'themed' homes for piggies and that looks like either a cottage style or a Mediterranean villa ?/ Maybe go shabby chic :(|) I'd be adding oak coloured beams to the exterior and stencil rose bushes around the door mallethead ;)
The roof would look great tiled/thatched (not suitable for outdoors though)
Keep us posted :))

oo thats a good idea about the box! do you think a tunnel would work?

the exterior for now is done as next missions flippin roof! its in bad condition so i gotta redo that next! and the tunnel/step lol

they're coming next sat so i'm feeling pressure now to get finished lol
:x

i'd wallpaper if i knew they'd not eat it lol! little chandalier :p:p

You've got some good handy work! I'd not have a clue on where to start! Well done.

Your white hutch has got me into looking at white furniture for my room and made me think of getting a white hutch to match my decor!

All you gotta do is paint it! It's not white it's called pebble and is same colour as my room lol it's got tint of lilac to it. I love white furniture tho, my kids rooms have white furniture, i have black furniture but a white bed lol love decorating and matching etc don't always get it right tho lol

thanks katie, i've out the lino tiles down, then was going to do the fleece thing? but not sure 100% how lol. i've got some waterproof cloth tape which i was thinking of using on the roof! but maybe i should put it round the edges of floor too?

Yes, I would seal it as much as you can, because once water gets in, it becomes a big job to get it out again, dry and non smelly.

For the comfort part, I use newpaper, followed by cheap rubber backed bath mats and over them a combination of cotton terry nappies (left over from my kids) and towels. I lay the thickest multiple layers where I know they will wee most - you will quickly get to know where they prefer to go, although this takes a bit of time to establish with babies. With mine, it's usually in the deepest darkest corner under a hidey. Then the very top layer is a layer of fleece. Many forum members have these made, but this is suitable for when you have a high sided container made of correx, when you can put the edges of the fleece over the top edges of the container making it snug. I fold it over the newpaper/towel layer to make the whole thing a bit of a pad. You can choose all sorts of nice fleeces - I buy mine by the meter from eBay, and wash them a couple of times before use. The fleece wicks away moisture, so that it is soaked into the towels below, and the piggies stay dry.

For cleaning, it's very important (unless you have shares in Comet), to make sure that you shake out the fleece and remove all the long strands of hay. After that, you can bung in the washing machine. Some people use the bags that you get for washing horse rugs in. I don't bother. I bung the whole lot in the wash once well shaken outside, usually at 60C but every so often, or if I have had a fungal infection etc etc at 90C. Don't use fabric conditioner. I also am very un-eco by tumble-drying - but then the amount of drying days here is pretty low. If you do that, please make sure you clean the dryer filter out - again unless you want the bills to roll in.

HTH - any queries, pls let me know.

Ahhh beautiful. You have very lucky piggies. I have those hutches, they are the Pets at Home Poppy Den. You have given me lots of inspiration........... :-).
