I was approved this week to build a guinea pig cage! Luckily, my uncle who came on Wednesday has agreed to assist me. Or more like, he is building it and I help as best I can as a minor, haha. Since I have pretty much rescued Sophia from my brother, she is so much happier and will even take her veggies from my hands! I've been able to bond with her and she loves to sit outside of her cage and watch me do my daily routine and studying.

I am building a square meter sized wood + plexiglass, water-proofed cage. The base is OSB plates with linoleum as a cover and waterproofer. The sides are plain dimensional lumber. It will have a second story for additional space.

I am so lucky to have my uncle help me! I am so happy.that this is moving along much quicker than I expected as well. I claimed and received Sophia Tuesday of this week and next Tuesday, her and her future companion will have a beautiful d.i.y. cage to enjoy.

If there are any suggestions, please offer them. I am forever ready to learn more about my responsibilities as a guinea pig mama!

Your little girl would benefit from a friend. They are social animals and not wired to live on their own. Loving the youtube clip on how to build a cage. Your girl will be very happy in her new home.

It does say here that @jayjayb_00 is planning on getting Sophia a companion, guys. I suspect that it can't happen until the new cage is built however.

Firstly well done on being Sophia’s new dedicated piggy slave.

Congratulations on the incoming new cage, the idea looks great! Sophia is going to think she moved to paradise when she live in that and gets a new best piggy friend.

Look forward to seeing lots of pictures  and :wel: to the forum.

What an exciting story, can't wait for the next chapter! Piggies are so loving and happy pets, you'll never look back x

That is correct! I would definitely drive the hour right now and get her own but unfortunately, she is in an extremely small cage right now. I am working on the cage every chance I can get. This is her cage currently:
