Hello,

I do have an igloo for the guinea pigs which is fairly large but it also takes up most of their room in the cage. I do occasionally take the igloo out of there and just leave a load of hay for the guinea pigs to sleep under..is this ok? or do they really need the igloo to sleep in.

I have also noticed that around 11pm or later, they are out of their hay or igloo around their food bowl just sitting there. Is this normal as if they are having a bite to eat or drink? or is that because they can't sleep.

Thanks.

There cage sounds a bit small, is it a pet shop one? Guineas pigs can be up at anytime, Mine are more active, when its time for bed :)

I believe you have 2 boys in which cage you need to give them alot of space!

Two guinea pigs need a MINIMUM of 2x4 ft (60x120 cm) - especially boars. Lack of space is a major trigger for bloody fights and permanent fall-outs when they reach the stroppy age at 3-12 months old.

Guinea pigs are active on and off during the night and will come out to feed and scamper around once or twice. They are grazers by nature; they feed until their bellies are full, go to sleep and then move on in search of more food. In the wild, a group of guinea pigs controls a roaming territory that is big enough for them that when they come back to the same spot again, the grass has grown back.

Don't worry about them being up at 11pm. Guinea pigs are supposed to be crepuscular (awake dawn and dusk, asleep mid-day and mid-night) but most pet guinea pigs don't bother with that, just waking and sleeping whenever they feel like it, day or night.

Its good to have seperate houses so they can get away from each other, small cardboards boxes are good you could cut both ends out so they can run through like a tunnel but they can still be used to hide in.
