I changed my guinea pig to a new cage. I went from using bedding to blankets and he seems to have gotten itchy now. He was not itchy before I switched cages and this has only started a few weeks ago. My mother thinks he could be irritated by my detergent I use to wash the blankets I put in his cage but I’m unsure. What do you think?
 
He has been eating and drinking fine as well as staying active. He is perfectly fine with no red spots or dandruff.
 
Do you mean he is scratching more than normal? If you’re worried then speak to the vets and see what they say.

I don’t have enough money to go to the vets right now :/
 
Can you borrow from a relative or friend if necessary? You really need a backup plan for when your piggy (or piggies) need a vet visit.

I don’t know if the washing powder could contribute. I think it’s better to use non bio as they can be sensitive.

Give it a couple of days and see what happens. When you next wash the fleece, do a rinse afterwards.

I just use regular throw blankets not fleece. Do you think that could have anything to do with it?
 
Fleece shouldn’t cause irritation or itching so it may be something else, or nothing and just normal scratching.
